2009 GMC Sierra Hybrid gets priced at $39,365
Filed under: Hybrid, GM, GMC, Pontiac
General Motors has announced pricing for the first of its new two-mode hybrid pickup trucks, the GMC Sierra and they’ve apparently learned at least one lesson from the roll-out of the Yukon and Tahoe hybrids earlier this year. The starting price for the two-wheel drive Sierra hybrid is $39,365, about $10,000 less than the SUVs. It’s not immediately clear from the press release but it appears that at least part of the price drop came via de-contenting the pickups. While the SUVs have a navigation system with the hybrid power flow display as standard equipment, it looks like this is an optional extra on the pickups. The base price does, however, include the requisite “Hybrid Ornamentation.” I’m not really sure that GM needs to be pointing this out, since it’s pretty obvious, not to mention obnoxious. The same press release also mentions that the new Pontiac Aveo G3 will have a starting price of $14,995. At that price point, I’m not sure the Aveo/G3 would be my first choice. Production of the Sierra hybrid (and, presumably, the Chevy Silverado equivalent) kicks off next month with sales starting early in the new year.
