Default 1999 Starex

So my friend bought a Sarex 1999 model, and I read here at Tsikot that below 2000 model ng starex ay prone sa kalawang. My friend got if for 400k. So first question okay na ba ang price nun?
Next question is any other items that he needs to be aware of being a 1999 model starex owner? My turbo ang engine yata pero di pa intercooler, is that TDIC?
Appreciate any feedbacks or comments on how to take care this baby.

The price is acceptable for its year model. That unit must have been brought here a year earlier then sold as a 1999 model. Afaik, '99 models did came out with Intercooler or the D4BX TDIC engine.

I could assume that your friend bought an Automatic tranny model. According to the road conditions that apply, Normal, Power or Hold. Normal, name speaks for itself normal driving. Power, for greater pull. Hold for shift stage hold. Selecting Hold mode when starting your vehicle on a road surface slippery from snow (which we don't have) and the vehicle will start smoothly on 2nd gear. When "Hold" button is depressed, "Hold" indicator light in the instrument cluster will illuminate and automatic shifting pattern will be performed in 2nd gear to 3rd gear only.

Position = Shifted Gear on Hold
1st = 2nd gear
2nd = 2nd gear
3rd = 3rd gear
4th = 3rd gear

Sir Ungas, yes it's A/T... Buti na lang nabanggit mo about the 'hold' kasi balak pa naman niyang i-long drive this weekend, and that would post risk to the tranny right? Kasi running sa hiway at 3rd gear...
Also, meron ba rito may manual ng Starex, softcopy? Or any other place to download from?
Thanks again.

If I'm not mistaken that engine is a D4BF Turbo 2.4L, yes that would strain the engine too, but it is impossible to attain 100km/h when Hold switch is on.

Soft copy ba 'yan or hard copy?

20vanda01,

Mahina talaga ang mood lighting. It is designed to give soft lighting sa interior during long hauls (just like the soft lighting of buses).

Yung switch nagagawan ng paraan. Dun sa Goldpark Car Exchange sa may Meralco Ave. Hanapin mo ang table ni Peter Cheng (used car dealer). I think his guy Chito knows how to remedy it. Sa kanila kinuha yung ride ko.

Hard copy po ito, you could xerox it.

I just want to get in the discussion.

I am sincerely considering to buy a starex from Kapuso, importer of Korean used car in QC (ok ba sila magbenta?). I received mix comment on the starex series 97 up 2000. some say mahina daw aircon and yung body madaling masira but some say yung aircon converted na yun for tropical type wheater pagbinenta dito at ang hatak maganda daw malakas. Also, balak ko kasi matic. Please provide me with your comments and recommendation and this will surely help me.
