STARTING Sept. 9, only the Chevrolet Suburban will be exempt from an excise tax on vehicles. Eighteen other models, including top-sellers Toyota Revo, Mitsubishi Adventure, Isuzu Crosswind and Honda CR-V, failed a 10-seater criterion during a re-measurement by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) last week.
kagagawan lahat ito ng honda when it classified the crv as auv. now that a new tax regulation is to be implemented, hindi naman gaano ma-apektuhan ang honda since wala talaga syang auv and suv, the 2 most affected sa new tax scheme. baka mabalik ulit sa mga passenger sedans ang top seller which is now the auv's. so makikinabang na naman ang honda dito dahil puro passenger cars lang ang benta. yung crv kumita na sila dito so ok lang sa kanila.
ako i own a revo, and I agree na hindi nga kasya yung 10 (comfortably seated), pero hindi ibig sabihin matataba kami.
record ko as far as number of loaded passengers is 17 including driver -- 8 adults( 3 payatot, 4 medium size, 1 lightheavyweight = that's me + 9 little kids)
Pero I heard this morning sa news sa DZMM, hahabol daw ata yung Senate/Congress law modifying the excise tax scheme. Di na seating capacity and engine displacement ang magiging basis for taxation kundi yung actual peso value ng sasakyan. So, the more expensive ones will get more taxed while the vehicles that fall below the threshold value will get only 2% tax daw. Ang crucial dito e yung threshold value, which at this point is being debated, sabi ni Recto, P750,000 yata ang median value ng mga sasakyan ngayon. Pag ito ang ginawang threshold value, anything valued over that will get a big tax. ang mangyayari nito, cost reduction programs sigurado ang mga car manufacturers. Let's hope it redounds to the benefit of the consuming public.

OR
Fit in a lousy 1000cc engine to be able to lower its tax. :p
