mga sir na familiar sa starex 98 A/T patulong naman po..the problem is when galing kame sa isang place then hihinto muna sa another place with engine dead, hindi na un magsstart..mejo mag reredondo lang siya kaya lang napansin ko ung lights sa dashboard ay humihina at ang redondo ay humihina rin in a while...also, ung battery terminal super init.. tapos when i try to change the battery, ayun nag start naman siya.. kaya lang ang mejo magulo, bago sir ang battery namen (3sm motolite enduro), nag replace kame right after nung first time na nangyari un knowing na battery problem siya.. but it happened again with the new battery...add ko lang po, napansin ko lang in those instances, mejo malakas ang ulan at gabi lagi..but may mga rainy nights din naman na okay naman siya..3 times na namen siya na-experience in the past month..dinala ko na po sa electrician to have the starter checked, pero nung sinubukan namen, start naman siya ng start, sabi tuloy nung gagawa, hindi daw sira ang starter kasi ang lakas naman mag start.. mga sir patulong naman po.. TIA..=)
Have you checked the alternator? It might not be generating enough power anymore.
Sir GH is right! Your van has been with you since 1998 and to think that it's already 2009! Usually, alternators can last only up to 5 years and you are lucky that it lasted this long.
Have your alternator checked muna baka ma save pa ng mga car technicians. Minsan po kase pwede pa yan ipa-repair like "rewinding" nung coil or worst, they might ask you to change it na.

thanks mga sir.. had the alternator checked today. hindi na daw nagkakarga..pinalitan nila ung diode at ic..mukhang ok na naman..thank you mga sir..
follow up question lang po.. before kasi, and nag-aappear lang sa dashboard kapag start up ay ung heater and oil logo..pero ngayun may battery at one more logo pa.. pero kapag nagstart na, nawawala naman na lahat ung logos na umilaw..TIA ulit mga sir..=)
Sir yung bago nyo nakikitang another lighted icon are probably the heater symbol (glow plug for engine) and the alternator symbol.
In starex engined, importante rin pong ma-check minsan ang #8 nut size holding the shorting metal of the glow plugs or heater. Ganito ang na-experience ko ng may 2 yrs. na esp. sa umaga mahirap mag start mga 4 tries ako ng ignition..yesterday i checked them & found out medyo loose lang. After ko mahigpitan tamang mga after 7 seconds lang ay engine start na sya.
Most glow plugs are branded with HKT, be sure you buy 12V if you are replacing the 4 installed ones. Share info. lang po. Thanks!
Sir Andy, yung 4pcs. na #8 nut po na yan ay installed of tope of each glow plug, they're just located on the top of the engine block. If you're looking on tranny's oil cover kitang-kita yan.
These 4pcs. nuts are connected altogether by a shorting metal, powered with a 12Vdc which is secured to one of the #8 nut of glow plug (heater).
