Spare parts for both are readily available in the market. Yung sa Lancer, you did not really specify any variant (EL, GL, GLX, GLXi).
Yung sa Toyota, XE is 1300, all power. Yung GLI is 1600, all power, fuel injected. Para sa Lancers, EL is 1300, bare, carb, on stock rims. GL is 1300, power steering only, tsaka stock mags. GLX is 1600, carb, all power + the works. Yung GLXI is 1600 fuel injected and the works.
As a lancer user myself (from L-types, to Box, to Singkit and now Pizza), ang nakikita kong problema lang ng lancers is madaling kumalampag yung ilalim compared to corollas. Fuel consumption is excellent and spare parts are readily available and costs reasonable. Dito lamang ang corollas. AFAIK, fuel consumption is almost the same. Medyo mas masarap nga lang pormahan ang lancer.
Corollas, parts are also readily available and costs reasonable too.
Pound for pound, even though i am a lancer lover, tingin ko corolla has the slight edge.

para sakin sa lancer nako. ganyan din ang naging problema ko dati yung mamili sa dalawa, but then sa lancer ako bumagsak. Bakit lancer ang napili ko? here are the reasons:
1. In terms of parts parehong maraming parts na available and cheap din naman.
2. Fuel consumption parehas rin lang since 1300cc naman pareho.
3. In terms of appearance mas nagustuhan ko yung lancer since sporty type sya di tulad ng Corolla pang pamilya ang looks nya.
Yung #3 ang nag pa decide sakin na kunin ang lancer because of its sporty looks since im a bachelor, magandang setuppan.
i'll go for corolla if you want to keep maintenance cost down. i'm not saying that parts for lancer are expensive, it's a matter of reliability which equates to lower maintenance cost.
I drive a 97 Lancer GL 1.5 MT and I didnt have a single major problem with the engine kahit na hard driven ito. Spare parts are everywhere and kinda cheap (if you canvass first before buying) and some items you can DIY.
Adv. - matulin, very little maintenance
Tama si Happy Gilmore - kalampag lang talaga ang problema sa Lancer but it's easy to get over it.
I'd go with a toyota pardon to mitsu owners, pero tingin na lang kayo sa streets of manila karamihan ng taxi cab units are toyota, at ilan na ring taxi cab drivers natanong ko tungkol dito and they say na talagang mas reliable ito at mas maraming spare parts na avail. .
