the windshield of my uncle's grand starex that was purchased less than 5 months ago and for some unknown reasons a crack appeared. we went to the dealership and they said its not covered by the warranty. the guy told me the reason why the w/s cracked was because of pressure build up...is this true?
IMO this is a stupid claim because if it is true then many cars with tailgates(i.e. a van) will all have have cracks becuase of pressure increase inside the cabin when closing the doors...*shrugs...

tiniest pebble can cause a cracked windshield but with pressure build up? hmm... i dont think so.
build up ng air pressure sa loob ng sasakyan daw ba sabi? yung starex namin 12 years na, model 97 AT gas pa nga hindi diesel hehe, until now ganda pa rin ng windshield.
HP
thanks, will try to call HARI. nasa manual at warranty booklet naman siguro ang contact numbers.
Meyor
thanks too...i dont think it was caused by a pebble.the crack seems to have originated from the edge of the widshield inside the seals/gasket/rubber and is going towards the center.
Will try to take a pic.
All:
Thw warranty does not cover glass and paint, and some other parts as stated in the warranty booklet, pero IMO dapat case to case ang coverage. Will read the booklet again...
Sa Toyota mukhang mas lenient sila when it comes to windshield replacement, our office car, a '98 Corolla Lovelife had a crack on the windshield when it was a few months old, when we brought it to Toyota Q Ave. it was replaced under warranty no questions asked. Same thing happened to my bro's '05 Hiace Grandia GL, again, it was brought to the casa and replaced under warranty.
Here are the pics guys, what do you think? is this a crack caused by a pebble?a fly? or is this factory defect? or "pressure build up"? I already contacted HARI through email and waiting for the feedback. i hope they can give a feedback sooner than the CASA, its been 1 week since we went to the CASA, but there is still no feedback from them...
BTW how do you know if there's a vibration in the windshield? i tried feeling the windshield with my hand while it was running and it had a little vibration i think...
Cracks like that signify stress on the windshield due to poor assembly alignment or chassis flex. I doubt you would find such flex on a modern chassis, but it's a problem that plagued Honda Civics in the early 90's, actually, in the US (but there, temperature differences were making the windshields shatter, not just crack!).

still waiting for Hyundai's feedback.they're kinda slow...i emailed them yesterday, there should at least be something like,"we received your email and will look into it"
does anyone here happen to have a contact number or email where i could get attention ASAP? I tried the HARI site. I saw an email add there...thats the one i emailed.

my experience with hyundai (HARI and main (korea) ) is also similar with you..my grand starex's engine crankcase blew up and i never heared or received a response from them (via email)..although my unit is now being repaired, pero it seems that maybe nobody is reading the mails...

Provide them with a signed letter and visit them personally para madaliin. Huwag ka umasa sa email. Pwede nilang sabihin ni nareceive yung mail mo kasi baka na tag sa SPAM, di pumasok sa mailbox.
Yes, I agree with Sir Niki.
Yan ang problem sa mga warranty claim ng Hyundai; we are still at the mercy of whoever will approve. I'm thinking that kung medyo ibang brand ng vehicle like sa Toyota, tyak papalitan nila agad yan. Nag warranty claim ako sa starter ng 2007 Ranger ko, oks naman, pilalitan nila, although inabot ng almost 10 days ang approval.
Tingin ko, di pa ganun ka professional ang HARI, at even yung "grey casa" like Pitstop. After all, they are still "just importers", at any warranty claim is a big hit on their profits and bottom line. Let us ask ourselves this question, sa 3 or 5 years na warranty na sinasabi nila, meron na ba sa ating naka pag claim? at anong claim itong mga ito? In this case, windshield nag crack, dapat palitan ito, kasi, clear case of poor design or poor assembly ito.
Starex lang ba choice ko because I like that it's big, it's diesel and it's 174hp. Yun nga lang, di reliable ang warranty, ahe he he.

It'll all depend on the casa. Pitstop is a grey-market importer, but HARI really is supported by Hyundai Motor Company. As such, they receive support from the mother company in terms of product launches, marketing, etcetera... something I wish Kia did...
Warranty service always depends on the type of service and the individual assessing the case. There is warranty denial everywhere, not only with Hyundai. If there's even the remotest chance the problem could have been caused by someone else... incorrect tint installation, kid pulling on the rearview mirror, stressing the glass, rock hitting it... whatever... they will try to deny warranty. It's the game we've been playing with the dealerships forever... simply because Philippine law and warranty contracts (in general) are so vague on the point...
Say okay to the insurance... as long as they pay the participation... since you did not do anything to damage the windshield...
