Exclamation Can an LC80 cost this much?

Folks,
I dropped by yesterday at one of the few reliable repair shops here in Baguio to pick up my friend's car when chanced upon this LC80 undergoing oil changing. The interior was spotless, hell, I could even smell the "new car scent"! I was thinking that this guy must have a freshener tucked away that made it smell that way. Anyway, odometer read 70,000 plus.I checked the steering wheel also and the small "bumps" on it is as fresh as the day it was bought. (Tip: if buying a secondhand car try to check the steering wheel and shift knob too. A car with a very shiny steering wheel or shift knob, indicates that it has been used heavily through the years, try to compare the odo reading and the steering wheel wear. Maybe you could gauge the age of the car or if the owner did "doctor" the odo reading.) Anyway, the engine and engine bay was as clean as a whistle. It had stock everything, paint was still fresh (green) and the body stickers was still intact. Jaw dropping literally. Then the owner came and I heaped praises on his SUV. He said it ain't his, it's his dad's and he just brought it in for it's scheduled PMS. He related to me that it is a late '96 model LC80, locally acquired and they rarely used it, except on family outings, it was just wrapped in a car cover in their garage when they are not using it. He then mentioned to me that they are planning to sell it for 1.4 million! He told me if I was interested I could go to their grocery store and talk to his dad about it. I said that it was way out of my league. The guy was friendly and he even showed me the insides of the vehicle, the carpet was in excellent condition. Isn't 1.4 million a bit excessive, maybe it has a negotiable price, but if they could get away with it, why not right? Maybe his dad had the excise tax in mind. Maybe he knows that that burdensome tax would raise the prices of SUVs to ridiculous levels and come to think of it they ain't even 4x4. Now I wish I won the lottery. The LC80 is one of my dream trucks.

Considering its locally acquired and how you described the condition I think it's a fair price.

Subic LC80s can go for as high as 800k, new LC80s were sold at around 2.8M so that's already 50% devaluation.

I've seen LC80's being sold from 1.2M to as much as 1.8M. Local versions do fall at the same rate. AFAIK, their prcies don't depreciate that much.

Ibaloi:: In a word.... YUP! I can indeed cost that much. But wala ka nang masasabi diyan sa LC80. Its almost perfect. (Forgive me LC80 fans... i HATE the red lower tone color on some models)

sana nga lang full featured yung mga local LC80s as in other countries, with full-time 4wd, a center console in the interior, and three diff locks standard hehe

Dubai or Africa spec LC80's (with winch, moonroof, etc.) can still fetch Php 1.4M even if they are not in pristine condition.

As a point of comparison, the LC80 was sold for 1.6-1.7M when TMPI first released this in Dec. '95... sobrang swerte yung mga nakabili. I have a friend who has two pero nilalaspag lang ng driver

Yung sa Tito ko (yung nakita nila Otep and Dieseler dati), he got it Dec. '95 and it only has 65K on the odo when i drove it last week.

If i had 1.4M to spare, i'd negotiate and buy that car. Going prices for the local ones is 900K-1.3+M when i check the classifieds.

Thanks guys! Whew! That price range then is "reasonable" if you have 1.4m in loose change. After reading your reactions, I guess I wouldn't blink if I had the money and buy it, considering the fact that I was really impressed at the condition of the SUV.

I did not get the contact number since I wasn't buying it anyway but their grocery store is called Fancy Grocery, located at Kayang Street. This street is located inside the Baguio City market, the one leading to the Baguio City Police Office.
