Honda Accord 3.5 V6 with the 643 system.

6, 4 or 3 cylinder depending on what you need. Power and economy.

My answer's slightly different: the Honda Accord 2.4L or the Mazda 6 2.5.

I'm not fully convinced the VCM system of the Accord 3.5 is as efficient as it's cracked up to be in Manila conditions. Also I'm generally not a fan of big-engined FWD cars either, because the engine weight usually blunts the car's responses.

If I can stretch the budget a little more i'd take the Mercedes C180 Classic, I think its 2.480M at the moment. It may only have a 1.8 liter 4 cylinder engine but for me its still a proper Benz unlike an A or a B class and has the "snob appeal" which the Accord, Camry and other Jap cars are lacking. Another alternative would be a BMW 320i which is a very good handling car.

If its between a C180 or an Accord/Camry V6, I'd definitely go for the Japanese sedan.

I feel buying a base model like a C180 or say, a 316 is like buying a car just because of the brand. Sorry but for me, mas may street cred pa ang high spec Japanese sedan kung ganun lang.

Maybe, overall, the Accord 3.5...

But then again, if you're looking at a car to drive yourself, the Mazda6 is the best one on the market. Just enough space, just enough luxury, just enough power, great looks and great driving dynamics. Not as good of a backseat car as the Camry or Accord... but how often are you going to be in the back seat?

If you don't mind the looks, though, a Subaru Forester 2.5 XT sure hits the spot... mhmm. Turbooooo.

Kung SUV, your choices in this price range kinda suck. The Santa Fe 4x4 CRDi almost has it all... could use some more oomph. The RAV4 is probably the most complete package, but then again, it's way overpriced.

You actually have better choices in vans and pick-ups in this price range than SUVs. Lots of great pick-ups... a couple of good vans.
