For switching to 4wd in a hilux, just press the button on the right side of the small gear shifter, may nakaprint na 4wd, naka 4HI ka na, you'll here a click parang signal light pero 1 click lang. If you want 4 low just shift the small gear lever forward, no need to push the button, automatic na mag e-engage.

ganun yung setup ng hilux na walang tire rack sa likod, but I think it's thesame as your.

You won't feel a jerk when your in neutral, try your 4wd in soft/loose soil, huwag sa concrete esp sa 4low, or you an join one of the urban offroad escapades

Hilux Surf sa akin kaso 2 door lang so walang mga special functions like power windows and Hard/Soft suspensions.

well...there should always be a light lit on when you engage your 4wd system, might be there is a malfunction in your electrical circuit boards..that is so strange...check it out...maybe a simple fuse or a sensor...you need those indicators so it wont confuse when your 4wd is engage.
thanks a lot and have a great day
peace out

Shift to neutral first before shifting para smooth ang engagement. If you have the button on the side of the shifter, push it to engage 4 wheel drive high (4H). 4L is accessed by moving the lever itself.

NoOne,
Cale is right something is wrong w/ your indicator, if you here a click when you engage 4wd, maybe your bulb is busted, kung Ok yung bulb and converted yung unit mo, pa trace mo electricals hindi siguro nakakabit yan.
Be sure to check that your 4wd is engaging, umaandar yung 4 wheels mo sa loose soil

the experience on my Dad's Hilux Surf (Subic din). there are two levers dba? one is the Main lever na may P-R-N-D-2-L and may kasamang O/D switch na din sya. the Second lever (to the right) ay may three positions sya Neutral - High - Low. Normally dun lang sa High and iilaw lang yung "4WD" sa dashboard mo after you pressed the 4WD Green button.

Warning: Shift the Second lever only when the Main Lever is on "P" position. i tried other positions and it won't move. Even on "N" i could still hear the grinding sound.
