For a budget of 200-250K, What are my 2nd hand car options?
Hi! We're looking for a 2nd hand car and our budget is between 200-250K pero I know that at least 30K should be alloted for repairs, etc. So I need some insights from you.
What do you think of 200K 2002 Kia Sephia? Is it worth it or masyadong mahal?
Tapos how about a 1998 Kia Sportage priced at 220K din?
Actually, di naman puro Kia ang options ko. Yun kasi mga nakita kong medyo pasok sa budget.

Step22: Please do not use txtspk. You have a proper keyboard at your disposal. It's not going to take much more time typing out in full but it's going to save a lot of readers a lot of energy trying to comprehend your message.

sir, why not use it as downpayment for a brand new car? you can get a well-eqiupped AUV to suite your needs. Diesel pa, and first 3 years will be problem free.

Thanks po sa mga sumagot
@Kapitan: My Dad's not convinced with the Galant nor a Nissan. Yung mga Civic naman, parang higher priced compared dun sa mga ka year model nya. But were also looking into it, isa rin ang Civic sa mga options.
@Step22: What could be wrong with a 2nd hand Kia? I don't have the option for a new car.
@ Cablespy: Yeah, Corollas are nice but they sell really fast. Those that we saw at Buy and Sell were sold immediately. So it's somewhat a challenge. Pero ok talaga sana.
@ Drey: Mam po ako, hehe. AUV's aren't really an option, much more a brand new car. Kasi po, graduating pa lang ako this sem and, well, I don't have the means to pay for the monthly ammortization. So I really want to stick within the budget.
I've just started driving kaya I think safe choice na 2nd hand muna ang i-drive ko. Tsaka na lang ang brand new when I have a job na. Also, I don't drive stick kaya A/T lang or nvecs yung mga tinitignan talaga namin.
How about the A/T '98-'99 Mazda Familia? I saw they're priced less than 200K. Is this a good buy? May budget pa for repairs.
Generally, what year models ang kaya ng budget ko?

ay sorry po maam... btw, you can always find a good Mitsubishi Lancer in the buy and sell section. Corolla's and Sentra's are good as well pero to popular na.
Civics can be good alternative as well. Marami ata A/T nito in this price range. Kia's has a bad reputation in their old cars kasi. 2004 ang mga years na good quality na sila.

Early Ford Lynx like a 1999. This is the Mazda 323 which came after the Familia.
Or a 1997 Mazda 323 / Familia. It is old. Replace all the parts with ORIGINAL parts. My mistake, bought an old car and replaced parts with non-originals. Bad idea, deteriorated fast.
You can get a 1997 Mazda 323 for 150K. You will have lots and lots of money left over to replace all the damaged parts. Have it done at the casa. Mazda casa is not "taga-presyo" in my experience.
Do not go for the automatic tranny used Mazda. Problematic.
EDIT: I didn't know you could buy a Love Life Corolla for 200K. Seems.. not possible.
Manual transmission 1997 Mazda 323. Has an airbag and ABS already. Or a Sentra of similar age. Mazda and Ford are the best second-hand buys because Mazda and Ford cars of that generation have horrific resale value.

Problematic pala ang A/T ng old Mazdas. Yung 95 Mazda 323 namin ayos naman, pero manual. How about yung mga 98 Lancer GLXi? Eto yung Lancer pizza, right? I'm really quite set on getting an automatic.

Old Car + Automatic = Trouble
Old AT cars usually have transmissions that are almost burnt-out, the idle will be rough (RPM dropping below 500 at time..)
In my opinion only, the automatic tranny is more convenient than the manual about.. 10% of the time. When you're stuck in stop-and-go traffic. Maybe it's just me, but when I'm stuck in traffic I put the AT in neutral. This is to prevent the tranny from overheating (if you just leave it in Drive and press the brake, the AT heats up).
So for me at least, the effort of putting the AT in neutral, is almost the same as the effort of putting the MT in neutral. The MT is just more trouble because the clutch is hard. So in long (3+ hour) traffic my left foot hurts when I use the MT.
But the MT has lots of things going for it: simpler, easier to fix, less problems, better gas consumption, faster acceleration. More fun to drive.
Since I drove an MT for a long time but now am driving an AT daily, I still look forward to driving the MT. Except for those rare times when I'm stuck in traffic for many hours.

for a graduating student corolla lovelife A/T na ang pang first time mo.. cheap to maintain .. easy to handle.. will last long..
but first check its performance and if it's well maintained by the previous owner..

you can get a series 3 nissan sentra ('98-'00) 1.6 SS for less than 200k. With ABS na ito, all disk brake and the best aircon around. Use the extra cash to have the 'ilalaim' checked at casa.
