Upgrading the REVO suspension

I just want to know if anyone had done suspension upgrades to their REVO. I own a 2003 Revo SR and I'm not that happy with the ride. I want it to be more comfortable. I've read comments in this forum that the REVO is already comfortable compared to the other AUVs. But just the same, there may be some who had done upgrades that my apply to me. So please share.

I'm thinking of changing my shocks to either OME (Old Man) or Pro Comp. I read that these 2 are the most comfy. Pro Comp is cheaper by 100% than OME, so I'm thinking to go Pro Comp. Any feedback? Do you think this upgrade is worth the money? Is there noticeable gain?

Try reversing first one of the "molye" on the rear leaf springs (the smallest one)... that will help. I did that on my pick-up and added some gas shocks...

My cousin did the OME, (I think it was, not sure)... didn't notice the difference much when I rode it, since, compared to our Crosswind, the REVO rides like a limousine ( ) and I only test-rode it for a short while, but it felt good naman. He said his wife noticed the difference immediately.

He spent a lot, though, and got adjustables for the rear so he could adjust the valving for when he carries a lot of cargo.

Niky, kaka-aliw naman yung comment mo (limousine compared to Crosswind). If your cousin's wife noticed the diff, then the improvements must be big.

Wildthing, how is that change (to independent suspension) normally done? Via suspension transplant?

RE: independent suspension... hirap niyan... kung hindi siya bolt on, may welding/cutting involved sa suspension mounts.

Diba sa US may nabibiling Air suspension conversions? Di ko lang alam kung meron para sa REVO. Pero I'm sure it will make a HUGE difference.

Subukan mo muna baliktarin yung smallest leaf spring sa likod. It should have a difference sa ride.

About reversing the load spring (smallest leaf on the stack), the way the leaf spring set of the Revo is designed is that only the smallest leaf is left out of the spring pack. So the rest of the spring set is clamped together, while the load spring (at the bottom) is left dangling on its own. When the load is light, the load spring is 'naka-usli'; it only touches the spring pack when there is sufficient load to carry.

With this setup, will reversing the load spring (smallest leaf) still make a difference in ride softness?

I just want to confirm this point specifically for the REVO as its leaf spring design is different from common pickups (I think).

It should. The moment you hit a bump, that pack still impacts the hanging leaf. Reverse it and place a rubber snubber on top of the reversed spring (not sure as to the exact terminology) of a height that's still lower than the original leaf, so that the spring will still provide support under full loads.

For trucks that have another spring pack (parang 2 stages), useless i-reverse ang last spring na yun dahil on normal loads hindi rin naman tinatamaan ng spring pack. As far as i know yung smallest spring sa spring pack ang nire reverse to make a more noticeable difference. Kaso may nagsabi sa other forums na baka lumambot naman masyado at hindi na kakayanin ng shocks ma-control ang movements ng suspension. I was planning this route also kaso im skeptical din baka maging maalon sobra ride.

So reversing the smallest spring will still improve the ride softness, but may lead to too much roll. Siguro, dapat combo talaga ng shocks upgrade + spring reversal.

The guys I spoke to at RATS Makati told me that the stock shock of the REVO is just one way. It only controls the compression, but no rebounding action. Not sure if this is just sales talk. But based on my riding experience, I can feel that the 'bagsak' of the revo is controlled...medyo swabe. Pero yung rebound talaga ang matindi...parang iniitsa yung pasahero...lalu na kapag uneven yung road...kagaya ng EDSA.

Siguro nga upgrading to OME (or other aftermarket shocks) will result to better riding comfort (as attested by Niky's cousin).

baka magkaproblema ka pag spring lang binaliktad mo. since you said na single action lang ang shocks ng revo. mas effective talaga when you reverse the spring and get an OME or explorer pro comp. I suggest dun ka sa explorer pro comp dahil adjustable siya sa ride. Yung everest ko naka OME na and natatagtagan pako Kelangan ko pa siguro mag reverse spring hehehehe.Im just curious kasi ang pagkakaalam ko sa revo siya na pinaka smooth riding sa lahat ng auv.

Yun bang 'explorer pro comp' na shocks eh yung binebenta sa RIDE? Nag-inquire din ako dun at sabi nila mukhang yung ES1000 ang fit sa Revo. They haven't installed any pro comp shocks to REVOs so they need to remove a shock to know if their pro comps will fit.

Bale 2 models yata ng pro comp ang maaring magkasya sa REVO. Yung ES1000 (fluid) or yung MX6 (gas; adjustable).

Saan binebenta yung explorer pro comp?

hi, i was the cousin niky was refering to. i used rancho shocks for my revo VX200. rancho 5000 for the fronts and rancho 9000 for the rears. very satisfied with results. medyo mabigat lang sa bulsa po. i set the 9000 to setting number 2 out of the 9 available. yun yung parang pinaka effective for me. nawala yung undesirable side hop when tackling uneven surfaces diagonaly and ang laki ng nabawas sa ride harshness niya. i didn't bother modifying anythin on the leaf springs so as not to lessen the revo's utility.
