in my quest for a decent 2nd car...
I've stumbled on to a well kept altis 1.6E MT.....
low mileage at 12K... and priced decently at 550K....
brand new CITY 1.3 CVt is at 630K...
initial priorities were to get a good car for my daughter's possible use..so automatic (preferred)...
but this nice surprise kind of changes things....now I have to convince daughter to try out MT transmission....
both are definitely economical...although altis is a class higher I guess

Re: 2005 ALTIS 1.6 E or brand new CITY 1.3 CVT
for girl driver's consideration, mas Ok ata kapag mababa ang dash with which bagsak ang Altis... but its seating position is kinda Ok naman.also, getting a new car ensures troublefree driving especially sa mga girls na wala mashadong alam sa troubleshooting and maintenance.

IMO, i think the most approriate for your daughter is the CVT. Generally, driving skills and enthusiam of women are not of the same level with men. The ease of driving should be given utmost consideration in choosing a car for her. In the case of a lemon unit, just be careful in selecting one. Not all Citys' are lemon.
How old is the Altis? Get it if you can manage to wrangle a lower price.
It is better to let your daughter try/practice with a manual transmission first and let her decide whether she can manage with it or not. If not, the City you suggested is still a good choice. I think if you add another Php 80,000 +/- to the price of the 1.3 City you can get the 1.5 variant with lots of add ons such as ABS , airbags, etc.
