the rav4 is much smaller than the crv. in my opinion mas "feminine" ang dating ng rav4 compared to the crv's more macho styling
i'm not sure if the 2003 model yung may bench-style front passenger seat and third row seats, pero if it is, the extra seating isn't all that useful kasi masikip rin yung extra seats and pangit pa tingnan. also, the crv's gear shifter is mounted on the steering collumn, ewan ko lang for the rav4.
whichever car you decide to get i'd say get the the 2 wheel drive variant. much cheaper and it's enough kung regular driving lang naman
As for the styling it's subjective but for me I'd go for the dynamic styling of the Gen2 Rav. its swooping lines makes it look like it's moving even when standing still.
The Gen2 styling is a bit bland on the sides and the rear which reminds me of a boxed van shape just like a vannette or a lite ace.

Rav4
+ good fuel consumption (8-9 km/L)
+ the quickest among 2.0L compact SUVs (due to its light weight)
+ full-time 4WD and better OEM tires (fatter 235mm Dueler 649s)
+ very compact, good for city driving
+ split, slide, tumble & foldable 2nd row
+ better interior (two-tone grey & blue seats; aluminum-like accents; sporty dial)
+ better exterior (IMO)
+ good OEM sound system
+ good forward & side visibility
+ decent space at the 2nd row
+ strong brakes (provided they've replaced already the defective front rotors)
+ handles quite nicely thanks to its AWD & sporty suspension
- harsher ride due to sporty suspension setup & shorter wheelbase
- lots of cabin noise
- small rear window
- front row legroom is a bit cramped
- lacks lumbar adjustment
as for interior room, I find it quite roomy. I was able to fit in easily the entire box of a gym equipment we purchased due to its foldable seats. without folding the seats I was able to fit in a wash bowl with a stand & a toilet seat.
If ur into big space and functionality obviouslly go for the CRV. But if ur a bachelor no plans of tieing the knot for the next 2-3years get the RAV4 bka one year lang magasawa ka na! because of the pogi looks of the RAV4.
yep meron pa din hanger sa cargo area yung crv pero maliit lang unlike the gen1 where it runs across the rear passenger side all the way to the cargo area.
that's what i miss about the crv. mobile closet yung crv ko noon. andun lahat damit pang duty, pambihis pag from duty and pang gimik
As for a comfortable ride matagtag yung rav4. for the crv if it's the 8seater version you just have to change the rear springs to have a comfortable ride.
get the rav4 ! fuel economy, looks, resale value medyo mataas pa athough for me medyo cramped interior a especially seating .. medyo 4 seater lang talaga siya ....
although the crv has the space ... matagtag sobra to coz i knw the 03 is still the auv version ... matakaw rin sa gas and it has oil eating issues plus aircon issues ..
Personally, choosing from the two, I would choose the Rav. Usually a test drive would help you choose between them, based on your preferences/needs.

fuel consumption doesn't really matter; looks secondary lang since pwede ko naman isetup either.
I think for what you're looking for, the Gen1 CRV matches it well. Roomy, and comfortable ride. The 03 Gen2 CRV as others already mentioned is still the "AUV" version, which has the harsh ride. You must try and test drive a Gen1 CRV and compare to the 03 CRV to realize the harshness the 03 one has. As others mentioned, an option is to possibly modify the suspension to make the 03 CRV smoother.
Good luck in your final pick.

lahat ba ng 2003 model CRVs ay harsh yung ride? or problem lang sya sa 8-seaters?
question for the RAV4 owners, do all 2001 models have a problem with the front
rotors? nagrecall ba ang toyota to have these fixed and how can i check if
the rotors have been fixed?
