mahirap magsabi ng "low maintenance" pero although all of them madali nalang din hanapan ng parts, kung babatayan natin ung resale, malamag mag-stand-out ang corolla.
di katulad ng myth, di na totoong mahirap sa piyesa ang astina...pero sa porma, and i think cargo space, stand out ito...and its no a sedan, it may be considered as hatch?, di wagon un...for me practicality, cargo eto vote ko, pero it comes in carburated engine..when you want to get one, i suggest a manual transmission since at your budget, mahirap na makakuha ng good a/t models...malaki ang chance na may sira na ung tranny...
oh well, mura lang naman ang buong japan-surplus na performance mazda engines kaysa sa mitsu and toyota performance engines..
kung tipid hanap mo, out na ang astina..1.6L carb lang un...lancer and corolla is your best bet.sa lancer, 1 trim lang ang 1.3L: "EL", ang corolla has 2: XL: base model, i think all-manual(steering,mirrors,windows,etc..) XE:"XL" trim + tachmeter, power steering...
why not sentras? good buy naman sila..for that amount, series 2 sentras has all power, and features that a high-end car have during its time. ok, medyo mahal lang ang parts, pero not that much, halos di mo makikitan ang difference...ang myth ng nissan mostly apply sa high-end cars nila, like my MAXIMA....alam ko may 1.3L LEC sila, 1.4 ex? and 1.6 super saloon->top model.
masyado na luma ung singkit lancer, boxtype sentra/california or mits lancer gt (1.8L-carb), galant gti...pero, for me they're great cars, especially the galant gti...
tip ko manual kunin mo..madali pa sa maintenance in the long run, but medyo incovinient lang sa very-very stop-and-go traffic.

If I were you, I would go for the Toyota Corolla. There are an abundance of parts available for it and Toyota's reputation for reliability for this Corolla is quite high.
I think the 1.6 GLI or 1.3 XE have very little differences in price, so try going for the 1.6 GLI as much as possible.
The Corolla you are targetting is from 92-97. Toyota released some "limited" editions for the 1.6 GLI and XE in '94, basically you would see a golden square badge that says "LIMITED" stuck on the rear passenger doors.These models came with interior wood panelling, gold side pinstripping, gold emblems, and keyless entry, but aside from those cosmetic differences everything else are the same with the regular models. Some '95 models (1.6 only) also came with factory keyless entry and alarm system.
In 1996, they did some minor facelift by putting on new front bumper, grill, rear lights and new seating materials inside. They also released a couple of "limited" units. One came with a rear spoiler and Momo Steering wheel and another is the TRD stage 1, which had a sway bar installed inside the engine bay, high performance spark plugs and better air filter. This new facelift lasted until 1998 when they released an all new body Corolla AE101.

Tnx for the replies ü
for me 1.6L is 1.6L, no matter who manufactures it..but mazdas are known for its high thirst for fuel, maybe because daw sa gearing ng transmisiion nito...pero its the same 1.6L, carburated..same as 89-92? corolla gl(1.6L), but 94 up glis are fuel injected and 16 valves...same as lancer singkits (89-92), except for the lancer singkit gti(dohc 1.5L) and glxi(sohc 1.6L), all badges without an "i"..
magulo?eto summary nalang:
94 astina-->1.6L carb engine, 12 valve, mt/at available all power, hatch and the cool pop-up lights...last models were equipped with neons and special paint(most likely di na gumagana mga neon and napalitan na ung paint),swak sa 140 thou or just add 10 thou more....
93-94 corolla (eto ba un ae92 or 101? o ung nauna dito ung ae92)->available in:
93-94 mitsu lancer aka lancer itlog:
EL->1.3L sohc 8-valve? carb...manual everything..base model, malamang may sukli kang malaki-laki sa 140K mo...
GL->1.5L sohc 8 valve? carb..EL trim plus colored bumbers,mostly aestetic lang difference, power steering?alam ko may gli trim na ito, difference lang is the engine is fuel injected.
GLXi->1.6L sohc 16-valve engine..in m/t and a/t, all power, top model.
wala namang special models nilabas ang mitsu that years..alam ko lang is ung lancer singkit gti...
pag nissan, ung myth mostlikely di ma-aaply yan sa sentra line, ang dami sentra owners...
my car, a maxima, totoo un, it an executive car,e! cefiro(a31?) too..pero mga are really gas and road guzzlers, 2.0 electro-carb for the maxima, 2.4L carb and rear-wheel drive for the cefiro.bluebirds somehow also included in the myth.
for your budget or 10-40 thou more, makakakuha ka ng sentra series2 super saloon 1.6L dohc 16-valve, all power, and almost everything an local japanese executive car of that time.
basta, i recommend get a manual tranny over an auto..because of its age, di na malabong may sira na ang a/t models.. good luck, hope you'll get the best out of your budget...
