Default IMV vs Tacoma/4Runner Platform

Just thinking...

Toyota might have saved more on R&D if they just used the platforms of the JDM / USDM 4Runner & Tacoma platforms instead of developing the new IMV platform.

maybe the tag "Brand New Platform" might sell better than using the old platform...
less we know the IMV platform is nothing new to toyota... hmmmm

i think all of them were based on a new platform but only differs in their marketing region...

i saw a new 4runner (with diplomat plate) malapit sa hardware namin dito malapit sa visayas ave., nakapark...pinagmasdan ko halos kamukha ng fortuner...di kaya ung fortuner dito sa atin might be derived sa 4runner(USDM name)/hilux surf(JDM name)...

para lang din maiba ung image ng sasakyan....dating "bago", unlike kung 4runner, masyado na kilala, baka di sila payagang presyuhan ng 1.5M below...ung hilux nga diba di binago ung name pero pick-up parin siya...ung innova, might as well may JDM couterpart yan....di ko pa napapansin masyado,e...

nope. the IMV & 4Runner/Tacoma platform isn't the same.

all IMV vehicles (Innova, Fortuner, etc.) doesn't have a JDM counterpart.

may be nga...cosmetically looks identical lang ung imported na 4runner and ung local na fortuner...takot ako pagmasdan ng matagal kasi diplomat plate,e...

maybe it has something to do sa chassis itong mga IMVs na pinagkaiba nila sa JDMs/USDMs...

now i think na din ung IMVs ay region specific platforms, parang "dvd region codes(di ko kasi ma-describe ng tama,e)"...pero diba may mga global platforms parin naman ang toyota, right?

As I understand it, the IMV platform is not a vehicle type platform, but rather a vehicle manufacturing platform.

Using a single continuous production line, they can produce 5 different IMV models (3 pick-up models, a MPV and a SUV) with no change in the production jigs. This results in big savings, since there is no downtime during model change. All parts arrive Just-In-Time...

the "IMV Project" is the vehicle manufacturing methodology.

the "IMV platform" is where the Innova, Fortuner, Hi-Lux, etc is based on.

I think mas mahal ang parts na ginamit sa Tacoma/4 Runner platform kaysa sa IMV Platforms series

eto lang po guess ko..

we never know if the IMV and Tacoma/4Runner platform are the same, it might just be a marketing strategy.. pero very successful nga..

toyota introduced the IMV concept to save on manufacturing cost like what vicoyski said above, the parts involved in the IMV project is sourced from different countries,
ex. India and Pinas manufactures the transmission, no single country have all the needed parts..

ang isa pang naisip ko kung bakit meron IMV is for toyota to
1) easily put coil springs or double wishbones on front
2) easily put coil springs or leaf springs on rear
3) to lower the vehicle floor on 3rd row seats, the tacoma/4runner platform might not be able to do this, the old hilux/revo platform eh medyo mataas pa rin yung 3rd row floor area
4) accomodate wide variety of engine sizes that minimize changes in engine bay (firewall, batteries, air intake, etc), sa australia meron V6 fortuner/hilux
5) .. marami pa.. hehe..

IMO kasi... they should have just introduced here the barebones version of the USDM/JDM Tacoma & 4Runner (which looks a lot better than the Hi-Lux & Fortuner).

i think kasi ung 4runner is 5-7 seaters....but on the 3rd row, you have to squat...at medyu mahaba ata ang rear glass ng 4runner na nakita ko compared sa fortuner..

sa US yata eh truck na ang category ng tacoma/4runner dahil sa laki nila.. not sure about it..
