Trooper pa rin ako...biased ako eh..hehe. Pero mas malaki ang trooper right? And to replace it with a gasoline engine, baka magsisi ka. Weigh things in terms of engine durability and fuel price. Sa looks, bow ako sa fortuner!
hmmm tough question.......
01 Trooper in its age give it 2-3 years wear and tear components will give in like the suspension parts, air con evaporator etc
but what i like about the Trooper is the soft ride and the engine grunt...kaso 13 years na ang UBS Body...and obsolete na ang trooper sa ibang bansa...
so para maging worry free and less headache i say sell your trooper and get in the line. he..he
kimps same with the D4D engines. if troopers has problems with its injectors toyota also has, so far mga three units pa lang dito. and considering that it is still new in the market.
Of course, Fortuner is better, but you might want to consider the 2.5 diesel model over the 2.7 gas, so as for your typical economy not to be much worse.

arb,
percentage wise, mataas yan he he he.. 3 down out of 6 deliveries per month, and assuming nag-start ang delivery noong June
the fortuner 2.7L seems like a logical choice in terms of price and features
however, with the rising cost of gasoline and the still uncertain fuel mileage /consumption of the 2.7L fortuner, i suggest that you wait until we have some more solid reports from the gas fortuner owners out there
baka mamaya ma bigla ka lang sa gastos mo sa gasolina coming from a proven tipid gasolina vehicle
is it worth it to replace my 01 isuzu trooper with a toyota fortuner (gas version)?
Sir, sayang naman kung ipagpalit mo Trooper sa Fortuner. Classic SUV ang design ng Trooper and the last of its kind na iyan. When it comes to performance i.e. acceleration halos pareho iyan. Durability wise proven na ang Trooper in the league iyan ng Land Cruiser. Speed wise halos pareho nasa driver na lang ang limitation. Some threads here mentioned that they achieve a speed of 190km/hr using their Trooper. At saka mas malaki ang Trooper mas maluwag sa loob at mas matipid sa fuel. Sir tignan niyo pang ilalim ihambing niyo kung alin ang mas pulido ang pagkagawa i.e. chassis, fenders etc. Ika nga e attention to detail.
Now let us compare the 3.0 D4D Fortuner Engine to 3.0 4Jx1 and 3.1 4JG2 Trooper:
----------------------- -Fortuner---Trooper(4Jx1)---Trooper(4JG2)
Max Output (ps/rpm)----163/3,400 --160/3,900------125/3,600
Max Torque (kg.m/rpm)--34.9/3,200 -34.0/2,000-------28.0/2,000
Fuel Consumption(km/li)
Rated-------------------???---------19---------------11.5
Actual------------------7-----------14---------------9
The actual fuel consumption is typical Metro Manila driving with only 1 passenger for the Fortuner and 4Jx1 Trooper but four passengers for 4JG2. The route taken by 4JG2 is Cavite to Manila and Makati vice versa. The fuel consumption data were taken from Tsikoters themselves.
So, based on the figures above although the Fortuner's engine is slightly more powerful but at the expense of fuel efficiency. Although I have a lot of respect for the Fortuners engine, it is new, unproven for durability and reliability whereas the 4Jx1 has a track record of nearly 6 years and 14 years of PROVEN durability and reliability for 4JG2. You just have to look around and you will see a lot of 4JG2 still running after 11-12 years nearly smoke free. In UK there are reports of owners of 4JG2 achieving 300,000 km and still doing well. The owner brag that he can still achieve 250,000 km more before he would need to rebuilt the engine. For 4Jx1 some owner reported achieving 80,000km to 150,000km of reliable operation. Although there are some injector problem with some 4Jx1, it can be remedied by keeping track of the following components:
1. Oil Sump Strainer
2. Injector Sleeve Seals
3. Turbo
Let me emphasize that only a small percentage have this kind of problem. Please check this site: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
The exterior look of the Trooper on the other hand is classic SUV there is no other vehicle in the world that look like the Trooper especially the 1999-2005 model. It is unique one of a kind original design SUV whereas the Fortuner look like a 2005 Hilux at the front, Kia Sorrento from the side, a Lexus RX330 from the side and the rear. It is obvious that they take their cue from the European SUVs like BMW X5 and Mercedes M Class. Of course, other manufacturers can copy the Trooper if they want to.

The fuel consumption of 2.7L according to a Tsikoter owner is 5.2 km/l. A V8 Ford Expedition has around 4 km/l.
