Default Fuel Economy Challenge (Canadiandriver.com)

Interesting read... note that the 1.7 Civic here is the manual, as are the Corolla 1.8 and the Mazda 3 2.0. Also note that they spent some idling time in the Civic and Corolla, turned off the engines that night, restarted them (cold) in the morning, and drove some more... the mileage figures are absolutely amazing.

Hay. Tamad magbasa ng mga tao... eto na lang... results.
Distance L/100km Gov't L/100km rating
Honda Civic 1022 4.9 (58) 5.7 (50)
Toyota Corolla 911 5.5 (51) 5.3 (53)
Ford Focus 786 6.4 (44) 6.8 (42)
Kia Spectra 786 6.4 (44) 6.8 (42)
Nissan Sentra 780 6.4 (44) 6.2 (46)
Chevrolet Cobalt 771 6.5 (43) 6.6 (43)
Mazda3 755 6.6 (43) 6.2 (46)
Volkswagen Golf 744 6.7 (42) 7.1 (40)
Saturn Ion 711 7.0 (40) n/a
Suzuki Aerio 636 7.9 (36) 7.0 (40)
Cars were driven normally, not Pocholo Ramirez 100km/l style :p, in highway traffic and then around the parking lot (in circles at low speed... great way to guzzle, as you're using a lot of gas to cover very short distances) for a while to try to use up the gas in the Civic and Corolla.

They had to park the Civic and Corolla overnight, because they couldn't use up the gas! Finally used it up the next day. Given that this is only 50 liters, full tank for the Civic and just 5 liters short of the Corolla's capacity, I'm surprised Honda and Toyota aren't crowing about these cars..., Hello, Petron? Shell? Commercial Idea???

damn, imagine my 2.3l MZ3 poor talaga ang fuel consumption.

Pero yung previous 5-spd 04 civic ko, I was able to achieve 42mph highway miles with occasional A/C usage and 70mph driving. It was only rated 37mpg.

thanks for the link niky!
