Revo, unang otong ginawa ng Pakistan

Naniniwala si Feroze Khan na ang kanyang kinabukasan ay nakalantad na sa sandaling ipanganak siya ng kanyang ina sa loob ng sasakyan. Lumipas ang kalahating century, inilunsad ni Khan ang unang home-grown vehicle ng Pakistan.

"Every nation in the world has taken a lot of pride in making cars, and I wanted to contribute it to my country," tugon ni Khan na ang kanyang kumpanyang Adam Motor ay kalulunsad lang ng pinaghirapang oto na tinawag na Revo.

Ang compact, five-door 800cc model ay lumarga na sa mga kalsada ng Karachi sa nakalipas na linggo. Ang snub-nosed model ay may presyong 270 rupees ($4,500), 30 hanggang 40 porsiyentong mas mura sa mga ‘entry level rivals’.

Ang kumpanya ni Khan ay may order nang 400 cars at plano pang gumawa ng 5,000 units sa taong ito para sa 2.5 percent ng market share.

"Everyone has liked the way the car looks," wika pa ni Khan. "Everyone has liked the engineer sound, and the ride is more comfortable than the competitors’.

"The clients’ response is good since it is the first Pakistani car."

Wala namang kaba ang 56-anyos na si Khan sa kumpetisyon dala ng mga giant carmakers ng Japan, South Korea, Europe at USA at sinabing ang pagsisikap ay may kalakip na tagumpay.

"It’s a marathon," aniya. "I am not running a 100-meter race."

Ipinaliwanag ni Khan na nagsimula siya sa Revo project pitong taon na ang nakakaraan. "Four years for preparations of technology, and three years to work actively on the car."

Adam Motor Co., an assembler of Chinese SUVs and pickup trucks in Pakistan introduced an indigenous automobile earlier this week.



1051 cc petrol engine, sourced from Wuling in China. Otherwise the car is built from local parts
