im planning to buy a 2nd honda. i have a 280k budget plus 20k for repairs (just in case na may dapat ayusin) which do you think should i get, a 97 civic vti or a 96 accord? (both are matic) and bakit mas mura yata ang price ng accord compared sa civic? is that because of the high fuel consumption of the accord? i really need your help guys coz im preparing to buy a car within this month. THANKS!!!
pero if u have lots of money and price of fuel doesnt bother u mag accord ka nalang...
Accord para sakin. Pero kung tight ang budget mo for fuel get the civic. The accord is also a higher model so chances are whoever owned the vehicle took better care of it because they could afford it. Also it is more likely that someone who owns an Accord has another vehicle they use so the mileage would be lower in general. It offers more interior space and better ride comfort.
Pero biased ako towards the Accord because I drive one. hehe
It's never about the fuel... it's about maintenance. Midsized cars will necessitate much more maintenance than compacts over the long run. Secondhand Accords, Galants and Cefiros will require replacement of suspension, steering and transmission parts much sooner than a small car like the Civic will. Plus those parts will cost more. As an overall favor to your wallet, unless you really need the space, stick with the Civic.
An Accord would be nice though... just be sure you realize what you're getting into.

The Accord 2.2 VTi is a nice car. It rides very comfortably and has the oomph when you need it. The 2.0 EXi isn't exactly the quickest in its class. Perhaps a much cheaper Altima can at least equal its pace while a Corona can even beat it. Downside though is that both have a lusty thirst for fuel.
The Civic VTi automatic is a more practical choice obviously. I have one like this and up until now, it's serving us well. Two things about the gearbox though. What I hate the most is the fact that it takes longer to shift from 1st-2nd and 2nd-3rd. Other Hondas shift much more quickly. The other downside of the automatic is its jerky shifting feel.
I'd suggest a manual Civic but the automatic is ok too should your demands prevail. Their only technical difference is the transmission, but I tell you, the stick is way more fun and exciting.
2000 STAs are very very very very very comfortable. The drive is not as exciting or involving as the Civic, though, and fuel consumption is so-so (not horrible, just so-so). The whole package is nice, just make sure you get one with no electrical niggles, as they're very hard to fix. Nice thing is, they're Nissans, so they're cheap. Parts are not as hard as people say, there are places in Banaue selling NEW Nissan replacement parts, and the parts aren't that expensive.

niky, i'm curious. what is the basis of this statement that a midside car requires more maintenance? are you saying midsize cars are inherently less reliable? i don't really think that's true.. is it because they are bigger so more strain on the suspension? but americans by and large all drive midsize cars (or larger) and they put a lot of miles on these cars..
