I was actually looking to replace my daily driver. The dealership lent me a new 5 for the week, not the M5 but here are my observations:
The commercials are true! The new 5's are a "drivers" car. It corners like its on rails, the acceleration is great, handling is supperb, almost forget that your in a four door sedan. The steering feel is "tight" at high speeds but turns with ease in a tight parking lot. Fast corners are taken with ease, not much body roll. The seats are supportive and does'nt throw you out of your seat on spirited maneuvers. The I drive was ok. Pretty easy to get used to. The finish was good. I had the black leather interior with black wood accents. Good combo. Also, the adaptive head lights were "cool". The headlights turn into the direction of the car up to 30 degrees. Talk about seeing around the corner. The engine was responsive, and that was just the V8. Think about the V10! Now, for the cons.... the looks still take a bit to get used to. I told my wife that the new 5 is like a wife that is the "best cook", great in bed, does all the house chores with ease and still pampers the hell out of you, BUT, she's not the type that would "WOW" your friends. Have'nt driven the C6 Z06 yet to make my mind up. Can't wait to drive the M5 or Z06. But also in the near future, maybe 07 or 08, AMG is supposed to be releasing the new E class, E63. Normally aspirated V8 with over 500hp. A good delimma to have...
