mga kapanalig, i have between 150-180 budget for a car. Ano bang brand ok? Baka may kakilala na rin kayong nagbebenta. Really need help on this. thanks.
i'm greatly considering maintenance. within city driving lang and occassional byahe sa subic. my friend kasi akong benta sana nya '94 esi nya kaya lang nagbago isip nya. i've been hearing good things about toyota as far as maintenance is concerned kaya lang masyado na common itsura parang nagsawa na rin ako.
I always say... when it comes to second hand cars, you cant base it on heresay. The way the car is maintained by the past owner(s) makes or breaks the car.

What i always advise: Make a short list of the probable cars in your price range then go check them out one by one until you find the one that perfectly suits you in price and condition.
150-180K can get you a '96-'97 Mazda Familia, a '95-'97 Sentra, a '93-'94 Corolla, a '93-'96 Lancer, a 1980 Mercedes Benz 200G, and a '93-'95 Civic amongst some...
why? although the car is very nice, roomy, has a good powerful engine and cheap to buy a good condition unit, the bad side is that the car simply consumes too much gasoline even if you drive very carefully.
My suggestion is to get a 1995-97 Nissan Sentra 1.4
meron namang 1.3L na familia ah....
but that aside, i really don't know bakit ganon. talagang mas malakas laklak ng familia 1.6 compared to its competitors. different power band? the sad thing is, in terms of parts availability and features for the price, the familia is a very good choice for a car in the 150-180 range.

I suspect the gearing ratio of the familia is the reason why fuel consumption is bad for the familia.

gears too tall? or too short?
i noticed that the gearing of the AE92 corolla (1.6L carb) and the GE mazda 626 (4g, 93-97) is actually the same! at least in the higher gears.

gears too short... the mazda familia is a blast to drive around the city.
IMO, the only way to compare gear ratios is through the specs on a manual...
You're quite right. I just watched the tachometer and speedometer at a certain gear. Close enough I guess. I suppose the added weight of the 626 makes up for the beefier engine compared to the AE92 corolla.

i ought to try that one of these days. :P
BTW geode (a familia owner here whom i know from pinoypc.net) is getting 10+ km/L on his 1.6L 323 in city driving. he says he makes sure to shift at 2000rpm and even 1500rpm when he can help it.
Hehe, I used to think ESi and Sentra are among the 1.6 guzzlers. And oh, is the 'tukod' stock setup of the Familia also a factor contributing to its lusty thirst?
