The Jazz 1.3L has around 82hp. I don't know if the Jazz 1.5L will be released here.
I'll go with the Mazda3 5-door. Looks good and is unique enough here in the PH to elicit stares.
My vote is the Mazda3 HB. The Jazz looks cute and all but once you are driving it, it jsut feels pretty "cheap" because the car doesn't have that "confidence" factor when you are driving it as compared to driving a Mazda3.
That's right, a 1.5l VTEC might be dropped into the Jazz's hood very soon. Japan has it [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].
Looking at the prices for the Honda Jazz and Mazda 3 line-up:
Honda Jazz
1.3A MT PHP 592,000
1.3S MT PHP 612,000
1.3S MT Sports Edition PHP 652,000
1.3S CVT PHP 652,000
1.3S CVT Sports Edition PHP 692,000
1.3 S MT with ABS and SRS PHP 652,000
1.3 S CVT with ABS and SRS PHP 692,000
Mazda 3
1.6 V A/T 795,000.00
1.6 S A/T 735,000.00
1.6 S A/T 5-Door 770,000.00
No doubt, Jazz is a good car for its segment. Innovative use of space, spacious (for its class), peppy engine, etc.. But the issue of space really boils down upon a person's current and future use for it. Also watch out for its suspension, which makes a disturbing rough noise when run on a pothole.
On the other hand, Mazda 3 is a good car with lots of positive reviews abroad. Good handling and very good interior appointments (except the seating materials which felt cheap). On the engine side, some tsikoteers who test drove it claimed that the 1.6l @ 104hp engine is quite underpowered.
Comparison is really difficult since they both belong to different segments. However, the 4-door Mazda 1.6 S is really sufficient for one on a budget. Assuming the Jazz 1.3S CVT (@P652K) is being targeted, then it would make more sense to shell out some dough and get the Mazda 1.6 S (@735K). 83K difference.
In the end, if you haul lots of cargo, the Jazz might be a better buy with so many folding seats configuration. Otherwise, its the Mazda 3.
bro HONDA JAZZ vtec na!! 1.5L 110hp@6000rpm. 4wheeldiscbrakes, new bumpers/interior, 15" rims. may M/T pa tlga! 0-100kph nsa 8.5sec! see review @ [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] price range nito nsa 660-670 according to my bro-in-law that works @ honda.

Actually the Mazda3 hatchback (or wagon) does also have big cargo carrying capacity once you fold down the rear seats. And for family use, its probably the better choice between the two.
The Mazda3 5 door IS bigger. The Jazz uses its cargo capacity well, but its smaller overall than the Mazda3, and has less elbow room (not as wide). The Mazda3 has it all over the Jazz in terms of driving dynamics, but if the 1.5 liter Jazz is coming here, it will definitely be faster in a straight line.
thanks for all your replies, the jazz was my first choice before the mazda3 hb came out, but since the price level will be similar sinama ko na sa choices ko..here are my thoughts:
Jazz vtec..o sige sama na rin natin i-dsi
pros:
-versatile seating
-cvt
-the promise of fuel economy
-resale
-promise of reliability
-stereo can be upgraded easily
-legroom is better than our A4
-hey, its a honda!
cons:
-matagtag daw? (sa test drive ko dati with major lubak..para nga siyang x-trail it absorbs the lubak well, pero marami na nag complain about the ride so they couldnt be all wrong diba?...)
-makitid
-huge tendency to be bullied sa streets due to small size
-girl-car / kid-car image
-interior kinda bare
-mahal for its class
mazda 3 hb
pros
-proper car size
-looks unique pa rin (yes, people still look at it)
-the dash
-steering wheel adjustments
-looks like a lowered suv
-wider has proper center console
cons
-engine (will be determined is power is sufficient tom.)
-fuel economy (malakas ba ito sa gas?)
-reliability untested (sirain ba itong mga bagong mazda?)
-rear legroom bit cramped (but not like the coupe rear seating space of the sentra)
-dark interior (parang mainit sa loob parati..ehehe)
i havent driven a mazda3 kahit test drive man lang pero napagsawaan ko ng upuan sa display, so tomorrow i'll head to the showroom and test drive one...
