Default Budget/Safety: Matrix, Vios, Lynx, or Altis?

We're talking semi-entry level cars here. I've made a spreadsheet comparing them by price and safety features:

Matrix 1.6 GL MT | 578000 | with ABS, with airbag, 103 hp
Vios 1.5G MT | 648000 | with ABS, with airbag, 107hp
Lynx GSI 1.6 MT | 650000 | no ABS, no airbag, with parking sensors and remote, 118hp
Altis 1.6J MT | 688000 | no keyless entry, no ABS, no airbag, 118hp torsion beam rear
Mazda3 1.6S AT | 735000 | no ABS, driver airbag, 105hp, no split seat
Altis 1.6E MT | 745000 | with ABS, with airbag, climate control, torsion beam rear
Mazda3 1.6V AT | 795000 | with ABS, two airbags, 105hp, 60/40 split seat

Offhand it seems the Hyundai the "best buy." But you know.. it's a Hyundai. So if not the Matrix, it would seem the Vios 1.5 is the best buy safety-wise and cheapness-wise. But I've heard all about how SMALL it is. I was surprised at the Lynx, I thought it had these safety features.. personally I like the M3 1.6S because at least it has an airbag and looks sharp! but the Altis E is only 10k more and has a host of non-poverty features. Looks old and bulge-y though and that torsion-beam rear suspension...

Haha.. Sorry bub, but American sedans aren't exactly luxury cruisers. Go Altis. To be honest, you don't really need ABS all that badly, considering the top speeds reachable in this country (and the cars listed), but airbags are a pretty good idea.

Damn.. forgot to specify which one.. The cheaper one. Just put in your own alarm system if you really want keyless entry. It's a lot cheaper than spending money on the more expensive one.

ABS? Top speed? Sorry but that doesn't make sense.

The ABS will work even when travelling at 10kph.

nga sir noretur, i much prefer ABS than an airbag....the sense is:

ABS will help you avoid obstacles....airbag?save lives during collision...pero if you avoided the obstacle, will the airbag be of use?plus yah it may save lives but it is an addition repair cost you know...

about your choices sir orly_andico, for me as a family man, i will definately choose the matrix...its a mini "MPV"...all your other choices are just sedans..space wise it its wiser...

well, i have no coments on the 1.6L models, but why not its CRDi model...it may cast a bit more than the 1.6L's but you'll save bucks on fuel bills...and its a 1.6L CRDi turbo-intercooled....

honestly, hyundai is not that bad..korea cars are improving than what you expect... search mo thread din dito sa chikot for details about the matrix... and wag ka masyado makinig sa hear-says, believe only in the actual owners who drive their own cars.

so my vote goes to HYUNDAI MATRIX CRDi.

There are advantage in having no ABS compared to car with an ABS.

Akala ko Toyota Matrix, Hyundai Matrix pala.

Anyway, Hyundai is much improved according to my readings. So, maybe this would fit what you need.

i'm just considering it for the meantime and weighing my choices. di pa naman ako bibili ngayon...

actually i'm quite budget-constrained, but my current car (although it is old) is a 626. so medyo malaking step down kung mag entry-level Jazz, or Vios 1.3, or entry-level Lynx, or Sentra GX. nawala lahat yung power features. kaya di ko na sinama yung mga yun sa possibilities. nabwi-bwisit lang ako sa maintenance of my car (mga 40k/year) and ang lakas ng laklak sa gas (6km/L city, on a MANUAL tranny!)

the matrix seems quite ok nga eh. plus 5-door siya so i can put my large telescope in the back (sa 626 di kasya sa trunk, kaya nagiging 2-seater siya when i go out of town to observe). yun nga lang.... as motioncars said "the matrix was designed by pininfarina on a bad day."

wala bang ibang suggestions diyan?

regarding the matrix crdi.. di ba sirain ang common-rail diesel with the crap fuel around here?
