Please share your thoughts (pros and cons) on this topic. I plan to change my ride (sedan) to either APV A/T or STAREX M/T 2k1 model. Please use the parameters below ;
Budget is P400k only. The rest will be financed thru a bank.
APV A/T
1. P750,000 price
2. 3yrs or 100k warranty and 2yrs or 20k free maintenance
3. seats 8 adults with few luggages
*I did some test drive already and saw M/T and A/T variants.
2001 STAREX M/T
1. P520,000 - P560,000
2. mileage is 40 - 60 kms already
3. seats 9 adults with luggages
*Did some scouting on Buy and Sell ph. autolink ph and 2nd hand dealers.
I'd probably look for a '02 Starex (price range of 550K - 650K):
- More parts and service knowledge available.
- Resale value should be better then the APV (once you bring the APV out of the CASA - brand new, it will already cost just as much as a 2nd hand '02 Starex with the initial depreciation).
- Diesel engine will give better ooomhp under heavy loads vs. the 1.6L APV
It's just a matter of taking your time to look for a good unit... The online websites are usually 2nd hand dealers who charge higher then from looking for a direct owner.
This coming from an APV owner. FYI, Indonesian made ang APV (with Japan and Indonesian parts). Since bagong salta kami ulit dito sa Pinas, limited ang kakilala namin kaya di option sa amin ang mag-shop around para lang makakuha talaga ng magandang 2nd hand unit. Takot din kasi kami sa sakit ng ulo, hehehe. Yung APV may 3-year warranty at 2-year free maintenance - just something to consider.....
sa buy and sell mo ba kukunin yung starex? if you know the previous owner...ok pa siguro. pero kung hindi rin. APV na lang.
pero iba kasi yung comfy ng starex eh. hehe (nalilito rin ako)
thank you for responding! so far 50-50 pa rin ang tally between the two.
So far 2nd hand Starex is ok as long as you get a good conditioned unit. if not
settle for a bnew APV.
baiskee, tama ka sa buy and sell ph lang ako naka depende. i dont have friends nor family members who own a starex so i have no idea abt their performance. i only get info abt starex in this forum . so ...
Macky, imo you're 1 of 2 proud owners of an APV in the other topic right?
APV's extended warranties are hard to resist ... though the unit is new to the ph market its something future buyers should consider ...
Try to look at Manila Bulletin Classified on sundays... marami dyan.
thanks vinj!
guys, if i consider a 2nd hand 2k1 Starex M/T , what are the things I should
look for/check for to say that the unit is indeed in excellent running condition?
I read in other forums that 1. alternator is placed near the ground - wag daw idaan sa flood? 2. break in atf or oil spillage(pang A/T ata eto) 3. door handle easily breaks - banawe has spare parts? 4. interior switches breaks easily? 5. squeaking noise 6. aircon is cold at the back and not so cold upfront? 7. mausok? 8. etc.
