Default Civic VTI M/T vis-a-vis Corolla J or E M/T

Hi all, this is my first post.

I just want to ask your opinion about these 2 cars.

I want to be enlightend on the Pros and Cons of VTEC vis-a-vis VVTI.

Which to you is better in terms of the following, and why? A Civic VTI M/T, or a Corolla J or E M/T?

a) Performance / Handling
b) Build Quality / Reliability
c) Fuel Efficiency
d) Comfort / Interior Quality
e) After Sales Service
f) Others you may want to share

Thanks!

mas sporty ang look ng civic kesa corolla...

and sa performance mas lamang ang civic..

quality.. hmm.. am more sa toyota..

sa fuel.. mas malakas ang hatak ng civic.. so i guess mas tipid pag corolla..

after sales.. depende sa casa...

1) performance/handling: CIVIC. the gearshift and clutch pedal of the civic simply feel much better than the altis E's. the civic is simply more of a driver's car than the corolla. on paper too, the civic has a higher maximum power and has a superior suspension design at the rear.

2) build quality: TIE. both marques are known for superior quality and unwavering reliablity.

3) fuel efficiency: TIE. both engines have similar, probably almost identical, economy figures if driven similarly.

4) comfort/interior quality: CIVIC (subjective). the civic has a sportier interior as well as a flat rear floor, but the corolla is slightly more spacious. the corolla's fabric is ugly, imo. civic has a better driving position, imo.

5) after-sales service: COROLLA. there are good and bad honda and toyota dealerships, but toyota maintenance is generally cheaper than for a honda. parts availability and outside-casa service options are also better for the corolla.

others:

styling: CIVIC (subjective). leaner and meaner.

aftermarket performance options: CIVIC, no contest.

IMO...

Between Altis J and Civic VTi... Civic VTi.

Between Altis E and Civic VTi... depends on your priorities.

Both have good engines, very reliable.
Both look good outside.
Service depends on the casa.

Civic looks better than Altis inside (better layout, materials).
Civic is sportier and has better handling.

Altis E has more features (driver airbag, ABS, climate control, etc).
Altis has lower maintenance costs.
Altis engine -- more appropriate for a family sedan.

I was once choosing between Altis E and Civic VTi-S. Ended up with the Civic. I do not regret my choice.

Hope this helps...

Same for me, if its an ALtis J and CIvic Vti, the Civic VTi is the choice. If its an Vti vs an E, the E gets my vote due to the car's having ABS.

I have heard that the VVTI engine is very strong in the low to mid RPMs. But once it goes over 5,000 RPM, the engine is already noisy, rough, and seems to loose steam.

On the other hand, I have heard that the VTEC engine is very weak in the low to mid RPMs, but once it reaches its 3rd stage - high RPM, you get lots of power.

Any truth to these?

I would not call the VTEC engine weak even in the low to mid RPM's. Maybe not as torquey as the VVTi, but definitely *not* weak. It also depends on how you drive.

Its a usual observation with some Honda engines IMO... The power band is more on the high RPM range rather than in the mid range.
