Default Help! Land Cruiser exRHD or Nissan Safari LHD

My father is about to buy a 2nd hand or converted SUV....his choices are:

Land Cruiser VX Limited (ex-RHD)
1997 Nissan Patrol Safari (local LHD)
Toyota Hi Lux Surf (ex-RHD)
and 1996 Nissan Pathfinder (ex-RHD)

which is the best choice? actually temporary lang naman, pang kayod na sasakyan kaya kahit gamit na. We went to Subic kanina, actually Nissan Safari na gusto nya na LHD, kaya lang after seeing the Toyota Land Cruiser sa auction, parang nagbabago isip nya, lalo na nung nakita nya.

Magkano din po kaya ang mga price nito sa bidding? it will be our first time kasi eh. and if ever Land Cruiser, mas ok ba yung turbo diesel 5seater or gas wagon 7 seater version? thanks!

Land Cruisers start out at Php 680k.

Ok na yung 4.2 diesel. 155bhp na yun. More powerful than even some gasoline engines. May 7 seater na diesel. You just have to look around.

Between a local Safari and an ex-JDM LC80, I'm personally leaning towards the LC80. But then again, we are going to tinker around with the vehicle so downtime is not a very big issue.

1997 Patrol Safari...kaya lang i'm sure mas mahal ito compared sa lahat nang ex RHD vehicles in your list.

Why the original LHD...less headaches. Pero like most of the threads here talking about converted vehicles, if you have the patience and the interest then an ex-RHD might be no problem for you. Also make sure there's a mechanic who can help you fix your vehicle. (Malapit sa bahay) para pag tumirik madali hatakin.

Yung LC70 JDM , nang kaibigan ko 1 month na sa Puerto Azul sira yung EFI sigh....

actually ganun din sa dad ko eh. added bonus pa ng LC80, may moonroof! and the conversion was done using a new dashboard and a LHD conversion kit na. ang sa patrol safari naman, its cheaper (we've seen some at about 500+ lang, super kinis at ayos na ayos pa)....pero syempre iba ang Land Cruiser right? thanks bossing!

if ever 600+ thou nga start ng Land Cruiser, mas mura yung local safari. the problem left is the aircon, kasi wala pang connection, pero complete na daw ang lahat, ayusin lang daw ang connection ng vents.

Yung aircon ng LC80 pwede ayusin nina Cong Obet sa Pampanga (ask kimps or Olive Drab for directions).

Yung sa LC70, pati mga vent selectors napapagana nila.

If its a project vehicle where you can afford the downtime to disassemble and rework the suspension, do TIG welding, brakes, AC, etc.. to near OEM-spec, then the converted LC looks cool.

But i'd probably lean towards a Safari na local.

Try to weigh the costs between getting an LC na converted and repairing it vs. getting a Safari and adding a turbo kit, aftermarket suspension, etc.

Mag local ka na lang.

I have many bad experience with converted subic vehicles.

Laki ng gastos ko and downtime.

masakit na masarap na desisyon yan. valid points lahat ng posts. dami na kasing discussion regarding this. Kung kasing ganda ng rig ni Ungas (he!he) Safari nako. Kung mura mo makukuha yung LC and you have the moolah to spend for proper conversion and mods and enjoy ka gumawa ng project car then LC ako. Basta mag enjoy ka lang and hope you get a good unit, Subic or local

If you would happen to choose the LC80 VX, check all the instruments. Sa pagkakaalam ko standard ang differential lock for front and rear. Full time 4WD, transfer case nya is High and Low only. Like the guys said, if you will tinker with the vehicle, atleast get the steering parts right.

Now with the local GQ Patrol Safari, nothing can go wrong with its steering properties, unless the previous owner mishandled the vehicle. Check with the service manual if it was taken care of well. 1997 onwards models have different grill design, cornering lamps, front facing third row seats, dual AC, front and rear coolers, standard rear diff lock. Common check is its front hubs, make sure the 4WD is functioning well, diff lock should also be checked if it releases properly.

I'm currently researching nga dahil tomorrow pinapabalik ako ng tatay ko (primary user) sa Subic to recheck... I have until Friday para makapag decide dad ko.

The unit he wanted is the Land Cruiser Series 80 VX Limited. Turbo Diesel. Yup it is full time 4WD, transfer case high and low only, A/T, with moonroof and winch, 5 seater (no rear seats, which my dad prefers). Its already converted to LHD (steering) using original left dashboards and LHD conversion kit na. Walang putol. All new yung conversion (as i saw it), the only problem na lang daw is the aircon is not yet activated pero ready na daw lahat. Another is the A/T shifter, its on the right side of the center freezer. Kaya medyo hastle abutin, but my dad wanted it converted as well kahit sa labas na din.

May tito ako na bumili na ng land cruiser before, pero hindi sa bidding, but still an ex-RHD from Japan. He bought it na sa isang shop na nagaayos na. He had an expedition, suburban, LHD & RHD pajeros gen 2 and other SUVs but he loved the performance and quality of the ex-RHD Land Cruiser. Sabi lang nya, baka daw ang maging problem namin is yung sa steering, may tendency daw na "sumisibak" daw yung steering pag about 100kph na ang run tapos nakasagasa ng bato o lubak. Check din yung brakes, kasi daw yung 1993 and below ata, mahina preno, but the 1994 and above, lakas naman daw. Pati yung conversion ng location ng A/T shifter, dapat maayos din. Pero overall, maganda daw ang performance ng Land Cruiser 80 compared to all SUVs he tried.

Actually mahal daw talaga land cruiser compared to a LHD safari. My uncle got his unit for about 900thou daw. My dad also is inclined sa Land Cruiser than a Safari, pero it might change depending sa maging results ng research ko. ewan ko, kakagulat kasi dad ko mag decide, pabigla-bigla. He wanted something big kasi he's planning to buy a new mini SUV next year (probably Escape 2005 V6).

About conversion kaya, is there anyone na ok magcheck at replace? sana dito lang sa metro manila para malapit, hirap din kasi kung sa province pa.

safety and peace of mind kasi ang priorities ko, so i would go with a local safari.

with the money you save, you could invest in a turbo kit na gawa lang sa manila. if using a brand new turbo, and the rest locally assembled, you are looking at about 80 grand ata. kaya mo nang habulkin and landcruiser
