Default ph16a honda civic vtec

97 honda civic vti model yung akin.

some say sa 3,000 RPM, tapos sabi nung iba, 5,500 RPM. saka ano po ba talaga ang ph16, VTEC-E o ung normal na VTEC.

Not really sure which VTEC system does the EK's ph16a engine has...

Pero to further close the gap, here are some stuff you might want to think about:
  • The 3000 rpm is where a VTEC-E system deactivates, meaning all 16 valves (from 12 valves) will now work past 3000rpm.
  • The 5500 rpm is where a VTEC system activates, meaning the longer rocker arm now moves via the wildcam. In effect, you feel the kick, hear the sound and all that ... a little bit like a pseudo turbo lag effect, as some say.
The VTEC and VTEC-E are two different applications. The ph16a can only have one, which one I'm not really sure of.

Some say the EK's code is d16y8, not sure of this tough. To have an idea, check the ECU code (given stock pa siya)... If it's a P2P then most likely it's a d16y8...

the VTEC system is not like a turbo, which when activated suddenly gives you a massive speed boost. its just a system to make the engine work better at high RPM operation.

dont go running around trying to hit VTEC like a noob fanboy, you'll break the engine. besides, its unsafe.

if you really want to know when your VTEC kicks in and you're tone deaf cause you cant hear the damn thing (turn your stereo down kasi), please do hit the hondaclub philippines forums and look for the thread discussing a do it yourself method for wiring a light to the VTEC solenoid so when it activates, you get a nice cute noob light on your dash. genuine article street racers will probably laugh at this setup but its not too difficult to do... if you can push a pedal to 5000 you can wire up a light (VTEC will not activate when your car is stopped and you're just mindlessly mashing the gas pedal, FYI).

HTH

Firstly, it's got vtec so it can rev high enough, pero syempre not until you hit the redline, as with every engine. Not advisable hitting the redline... as often...

My engine (d15b) once hit the 7200 rpm redline at 4th gear, around 170 kph I think, when I tried maxxing out the vtec in a street race, and then suddenly the CEL (check engine light) turned on and there was sudden engine hesitation ... from that itself, you have a clue as to how bad could it be when you do it really often...

I never did it again. BTW, may fifth gear ako nun, nakalimutan ko lang dahil nga i want to keep up, haha ... MT yun ahm hindi matic...

It was a race with a silvertop corolla.

ph16a = d16y5 vtec-e base s site [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

noong nagpalit ako ng spark plugs, air filter, gear oil, change oil, rinig ko na talaga yung change in engine tone. around 3k talaga nagbabago yung sound eh. so ok lang kahit up to 5k RPM. i should drive a non vtec car talaga para manotice ko difference hehe.

btw, may alam kayong nagiinstall ng vtec light dito sa calamba laguna? or kahit malapit lapit, ayoko kasi iexplain lang sa mechanic kung anu yun gagawin kung hnd nila alam talaga yun sinasabi ko. mas maganda yun alam tlga. or any of you guys willing to install one? baka lang.

i suggest to hang out in the HCP forums. maraming makakasagot sa tanung mo dun. though pag pasensiyahan mo lang ung mga ibang sarcastic na forumers

ph16 is the engine code of the civic 92-95 aka "esi"
ph16a is the one installed on the 96-00 civic aka "vti"

in case u might ask. Vtec-E ang nasa makina mo.

i've had a ph16a engine swapped on my 96 city before, di lang sa 3k rpm nagaactivate ang vtec, minsan 2800, minsan 3000, minsan 3200. i guess depende sa load ng makina.

in essence, the philippine spec ph16a is a d16y5. but the intake manifold came from a d16y8. so it can be considered as a mix of the two.

sa sohc vtec, hindi "ramdam" ang pag engage ng vtec. kahit sa d15b. you can hear it, but it cannot be felt. vtec engagement however can be felt with a dohc vtec motor.

so vtec-e pala sya, so not really vtec at all.

according to a respected guru from the other forum, the activation of the vtec mode is due to the combination of these criteria:

1. engine speed
2. vehicle speed
3. TPS
4. engine coolant temp
5. oil pressure

keep in mind though that each criterion should meet a certain spec also for the "brains" of the car to consider the vtec to kick-in.

that's how i understand his explanation anyway

been reading some of the threads.

Mine is a 96 civic vtec. PH16A and code n naka tatak sa engine
kala ko vtec-e ito according to the other thread saying from 96 to 2000 ata if i remember it correctly, kahit n daw vtec lang ang nakalagay sa valve cover VTEc e parin un (may nakita kasi akong ang cover mismo ay VTEC-E anlinaw)

sabi naman nung isang thread la daw vtec-e dito sa pinas dahil europe lang release un at normal vtec lang nakalagay (anu ba ang normal vtec by the way???)

anu yung mga vtec types? may nakita pa akong 3 stage

to summarize for the sake naming mga naka 96 civic PH16A - anu ang VTEC n meron kmi ?

nga pla mga sir nilagyan ko n to ng VTEC light dahil nd ako mapakali (DYI lang) - umiilaw at ~3200rpm pero tama ung isang thread nd mo mararamdaman ang difference (so same question anung VTEC ito??? hahaha)........tama ulit ung isang nagsabi nd ito iilaw pag nakahinto kahit n ratratin mo ng paa mo ang gas pedal hehehe.

^ pare i installed a vtec light na rin, haha madali lang pala, i had my girlfriend's father do it, kasi maalam yun sa electronics. tinap lang namin dun sa wire ng solenoid and nakakatuwa pag nailaw.

according kasi sa wikipedia nakita ko, one of the D engines (d16y5) is released here sa philippines, and its vtec-e. you can look it up. but anyways, vtec-e or normal vtec, theres a big difference i think versus non-vtec engines.

Normal vtec or simply VTEC is a system that, once activates, yields power (through wildcams and all that, just read around..)

VTEC
Generally kicks in at mid to high rpm (4500 to 5500 rpm)
Made for more power output
realtime 16 valve operation

VTEC-E
Active at low rpm (800 to ~3000 rpm)
Made for fuel economy
12 valve operation on economy mode (VTEC-E active)
16 valve operation on normal mode (VTEC-E not active)

VTEC (3-stage)
Implementation of VTEC and VTEC-E
D15b lang, afaik, ang may ganito

i-VTEC
Latest innovation of the VTEC technology

You won't feel the kick coz it's a SOHC, but at least you can hear a change in engine rpm tone...
However, ramdam ito on DOHC vtec's like the b16a...
