- 10-11km/l FC ng civic - mixed. But the one i`ve driven is a manual.

- civic has better resale value than of the ford

- the civic's seats are going to be uncomfortable if you're going to a very long long trip

- honda and ford has expensive maintenance though I think, the ford is higher by what ? 2% -> guesstimate.

- which is easier to maneuver ? well, sanayan yan, but I think the focus. since hatch siya. pero nadadalian din ako ipark ang civic din.

- - i agree with others. subaru impreza 2.0r. but other choices can be altis 1.6g or 1.6V. mas comfy seats nito. and ang fc ata nito is 10km/l city driving.

Guzzler din naman ang Civic 1.8 AT eh. had two friends averaging 7-8km/l. that's the 1.8S variant.

The AWD system + 4 speed AT coupled with the 2 liter, won't help the economy. motioncars got around 8 km/liter in their review

Indeed... it doesn't.

In fact, the 2.0R AT is significantly slower than the 2.0 Focus AT... and is actually slower than the 1.8 Focus and Civic.

-

Ranking these three...

Speed:
1. Civic (by a lot)

2. Focus (1.8 is better than Subie... 2.0 is much better... TDCi is faster than just about everything in the compact class bar the 1.7m Subaru WRX)
3. Subaru (it's no WRX. Manual tranny version has decent performance, but AT has ungodly long gears)

Handling:
1. Focus (best steering, best balance)
2. Subaru (supple, sure-footed, steering numb)
3. Civic (lightest, quickest direction change, rear end never feels like it wants to get involved in the fun)
(it's all close, and they're all very good, personally)

Ride Comfort:
1. Subaru (extremely comfortable... long stroke, soft springs)
2. Focus (very European... firm, yet supple)
3. Civic (quite jittery)

Front seats:
1. Subaru
2. Focus (both quite similar)

3. Civic (loses by a mile... worst.lumbar.support.ever)

Rear seats:
1. Civic (lots of space)
2. Subaru (only just beats Focus... cushion a bit too low to the floor for me)
3. Focus (a bit small... roof hoops too close to your head when seated three across)

Economy:
1. Civic (very good engine)
2. Focus (close)
3. Subaru (AWD+AT=guzzle guzzle guzzle)

Maintenance:
Hell, they're all new cars with new engines... maintenance is not going to be comparable to your Lolo's / Uncle's / Dad's old Honda/Ford/Whatever.

The trouble with local car owners is that masyado sarado isip natin sa Toyota, Honda. They feel it is the most superior among local car brands. Car owners/ buyers don't bother to look/ scrutinize the car specs, nagpapabola lang sa mga car salesman who lacked technical know how. Try to visit any car dealers, salesman will just sell you the price, payment terms, discount, financing, insurance, accessories. Some of them don't know how to sell the features/ benefits of the products they are promoting. To sum it up, both Focus 1.8AT and Civic 1.8AT are both good and superb cars.

i think one disadvantage ng focus is mahal ang 10k+ kms PMS nila compare sa honda/toyota..don't get me wrong we own two mazda (ford ito diba?) and 2009 everest...

baket ko pala nasabi na mahal sila sa toyota at honda?

my brother owns a 2007 1.5AT City ako naman 2009 Vios 1.5AT at siempre mazda 3

The City and Vios are far and away in a different class to the Mazda3.

Yes, the Focus/Mazda3 is more expensive to maintain than the older Lynx/Familia... but the new Civic is also pretty expensive to maintain.

Better yet... owner-type...

I think the Honda City might be locally assembled... the Toyota Vios is definitely locally assembled...

Personally, I'd rather get the diesel. The performance of the gasoline Duratec is generally good enough, but the 4-speed transmission leaves one wanting for more... the diesel is much better in this regard... but it's expensive... and definitely more expensive to maintain (service intervals are 5000 kilometers only, compared to 10k for the gassers).

Question Re: Focus 1.8AT Hatch? and Focus TDCi?

and also, off topic na, sana meron din maglist down ng overall advantages ng TDCi (yung madali po maintindihan ha, wag masyadong technical terms) so far kasi, ang advantages nya in general
1. it's diesel
2. at matipid sa diesel (efficient FC)

although mahal sya, in the long run mas makakatipid po ba ako in terms of fc ng TDCi vs Jazz naman (kasi jazz ang mataas din ang overall rating)? i mean, pwede ba sya iconsider na 'investment' or something like 'bang-for-the-buck'? again this is my first brand new car so malamang im gonna keep this for a very long time with no plans of reselling it in less than 5 years.

thanks much!
