Perhaps the Paris for President stunt is getting to be past its sell-by date, but the latest video from the series has made it out to the interwebs anyway. It seems that the heiress got her wish for a green luxury car. It’s not a hybrid HUMMER, as she stated she wanted a while back, but it’s the next best thing, we guess. The Cadillac Escalade hybrid is currently the top-of-the-line hybrid vehicle on the roads for young celebs wanting to make an eco-friendly statement. Plus, there is plenty of sheet metal available for the hybrid ‘ute to be painted your favorite shade.

We wonder if Paris is still driving the hybrid Ford Escape that the automaker gave her last year, of if that car just wasn’t luxurious - or pink - enough. Paris also suggests that we ratify the Kyoto Treaty right away, amongst other things. Would her new BFF be the Vice President? See the full video from CNN after the break.

New information on the electric Ford F-150 Hi-Pa coming to SEMA

When it comes to all things pickup truck related, Mike Levine is the go-to guy. Mike has been continuing to investigate the back story on the PML F-150 Hi-Pa that will making its debut at the SEMA Show next week. It turns out that PML didn’t build this truck single-handedly. They teamed up with DST Industries and Ford on the project. The V8 powertrain has been completely stripped out in favor of the electric drive system. According the PML the motors are good for over 150 hp and 500 lb-ft of torque… each! That’s over 600 hp cumulative and 2,000 lb-ft of torque at the wheels. PML’s wheel motors pull electrons for drive from a 40 kWh lithium ion battery pack that sits under the rear part of the cab and the bed where the gas tank normally sits. The motors, of course, also provide regenerative braking capability although the hydraulic friction brakes are also retained.

The truck is currently electric only which means it has a range of only 75-100 miles. Early next year, PML is planning to add an engine and generator to transform it into a series hybrid. The company wants to use an existing emissions-certified engine, preferably a flex-fuel example. PML CEO Craig Knight told Mike that there are no current production plans for the Hi-Pa F-150 although it could be built by 2011. Mike tells ABG that PML doesn’t plan to build motors but would rather license the designs to a tier 1 supplier that will work with automakers.

Chevrolet News - GM slashing product development funding; “no impact” on Volt program

GM slashing product development funding; “no impact” on Volt program

Filed under: EV/Plug-in, Hybrid, Chevrolet, GM, Green Daily

Conflicting stories out today on the fate of new vehicle development at GM. AutoNews is saying that the General’s cash crunch is means it is “postponing nearly all of its spending on product development in 2009 and 2010.” AutoNews’ unnamed sources also said that “nothing has been officially canceled, but nearly everything is delayed.”

Meanwhile, over in the Detroit News, the word is that GM is “downplaying” the negative-sounding AutoNews report. GM spokesman Tom Wilkinson told the News that “We think [AutoNews is] probably overplaying this a little bit.” The good news from both articles, though, is that the Volt seems to be safe, no matter what is happening to the rest of GM’s upcoming programs. GM’s Rob Peterson confirmed to AutoblogGreen that the cuts will have “no impact” on the Volt program at this time. Full speed ahead, apparently.

MINI News - MINI E gets it guts from AC Propulsion, not Tesla

MINI E gets it guts from AC Propulsion, not Tesla

Filed under: EV/Plug-in, BMW, MINI, USA

While we were discussing the upcoming premiere of the new MINI E at the LA Auto Show, we mused that the retro-cute might be sporting a drivetrain courtesy of Tesla Motors. Now comes word via Paul Scott at the new website for the film, “Revenge of the Electric Car” that the MINI will get its gumption from the good folks at AC Propulsion. This may make the MINI spiritually related to the Tesla Roadster, as it was the ACP prototype, the tzero, that served as an inspiration of sorts for the creation of the now-iconic two-seater, but, as they will share no parts, the relationship is purely metaphysical. Indeed, the only current link between ACP and Tesla is the licensing of a “reductive charging” patent.

This revelation does tell us a little something about how the MINI E will be to drive. As those who have gripped the wheel of the ACP eBox know, the re-gen effect is quite strong on this system. While it’s great for getting extra range out of the battery pack, it may take a little getting used to for some drivers. The effect is not unlike the engine braking experienced with a manually shifted car and occurs as one relieves the go-pedal of downward pressure. Once adjusted to the re-gen, the experience of motoring in the MINI E should be excellent and we look forward to being able to confirm that. For the benefit of our readers, of course.

Detroit Preview: Prius Team releases teaser #4 - it’s a seat switch!

Filed under: Hybrid, Toyota, Detroit Auto Show

Toyota and its team of Prius designers have decided to continue on unabated with the agonizingly slow and seemingly meaningless teaser images of its next-gen Prius hybrid. To recap, first we saw the display boot-up screen, which was followed by a random switch and then what appears to be a mind-control device of some kind. Fine, so we made that last part up, but the point is that we really don’t know what it is and why it’s important, much like this fourth shot that can be seen above. We think that this latest teaser is a front seat, complete with power adjustment of some sort. Forward and back, tilt… secret ejector… not sure. At least we get a mildly interesting look at the door sill plate, which looks stamped from metal with the Prius logo. In any case, we expect to see the real thing live and in person at the Detroit Auto Show in January.
