Audi News - Spy Shots: Audi RS6 on the ‘Ring

In a world full of AMG and M models, Audi can’t be satisfied with fielding only the 436-hp, V10-powered S6. That’s why it’s working on returning the RS6 to the lineup. The new RS6 was caught by Brenda Priddy’s spies doing laps on the Nurburgring in Germany. Wearing a migrane-inducing camo pattern, the RS6 is distinguished by fenders that push out wider to handle larger wheels and a rear diffuser that houses a pair of oval tailpipes. As the linked article indicates, while the S model sports four round tips, RS models stand out with these oval pipes. There was no mention of what may power the RS6, though it needs to be pretty hot motor to best the detuned V10 from the Lamborghini Gallardo that powers the S6. We’ve heard rumors of a twin-turbo version of the V10 producing between 500 and 550 horsepower, though other mills are being considered, too.

Thanks for the tip, Zerin!

Dodge News - VIDEO: One Dodge Viper + two honkin’ turbos = 220 MPH in 24.1 sec

Hennessey has a long history of making big horsepower, usually involving turbochargers. This in-car video from a breathed-on Viper shows off just how quickly Hennessey’s mods can make the scenery blur. We really hate the sound of the fuel pump at the beginning of the clip - it’s loud and obtrusive, and covers up a lopey idle from the V10. We’re going to go out on a limb here and state that the cam isn’t stock, and that’s where the bumpy idle comes from. The fuel pump is quickly forgotten when the run starts. After a soft-shoe launch to maintain traction, the driver lays into it. The twin huffers sing their banshee song, things get real fast in a hurry, and ultimately 220 MPH is achieved in 24.1 seconds. Thanks to our friends over at Streetfire for yet another clip to giggle like schoolgirls over instead of working.

Chevrolet News - New York Preview: Chevy Trax Concept

Speculation that the hush-hush global concept GM has headed to the New York Auto Show has varied wildly, with the Corvette SS a popular favorite among theorists. Turns out they’re all wrong. The secret concept is actually three global concepts. Small ones, at that — they’re all minicars — perfect for NYC’s urban canyons. GM has released a photo of one of them, the Chevy Trax, and you can color us impressed. We love the chunky little wagon’s look, with its big round lights and extra-thick Chevrolet crossbar grille. It’s also got a combination matte/gloss orange finish that we’ll reserve judgment on until we see how it looks in person.

Designed at GM’s Incheon, South Korea design center, the Trax will be joined onstage by two other minicar concepts, and the public will be able to vote for their favorite one online at http://www.vote4chevrolet.com. That little marketing exercise will help the General gauge US market interest in the mini/city car segment as well as get reaction to the individual models they’re debuting in the Big Apple. The Trax stows a 1.0L gasoline engine under it’s stubby hood, and we’re looking forward to getting up close and personal with the car next week.

Press release after the jump.

Cadillac News - New York Preview: 2008 Cadillac STS gets a revamp

GM’s assault on NYC’s Jacob Javits Center continues apace. With HUMMER and Buick already well-represented, the luxury division, Cadillac, gets in on the action as well. The facelifted 2008 STS gets a most welcome makeover outside. The new corporate grille design featured on the ‘08 CTS finds its way onto the nose of the STS, and it looks great. Also making an appearance are the trendy side extractors also featured on the Escalade and CTS (and Hyundai Tiburon).

There’s plenty more to discuss, however, so follow the jump for the rest of the story.

Come Friday, March 30, the new Civic Type R will go on sale in Japan. Based on the current Civic 4-door, the Type R is powered by a screaming, normally aspirated 2.0-liter four cylinder (K20A) that eclipses 100 hp/liter, producing around 225 ponies at 8,000 rpm and 159 lb-ft of torque at 6,100 rpm.. A six-speed manual transmission feeds power to the front wheels — 18-inch units shod with a set of Bridgestone Potenzas. Four-piston Brembos are visible between the spokes and provide the car’s stopping power. Body rigidity is said to be 50% better than that of the previous Integra Type R (Acura RSX).
