Audi News - Audi planning to spend 11.8 billion on new models

Audi announced today that it plans to spend €11.8 billion on itself between this year and 2011, which in Yankee coin equates to around $15.6 billion USD. That’s a hella lot of change for a luxury brand to invest over the course of five years, with yearly receipts totalling up to €2 billion once things get underway. Clearly Audi is serious about doing whatever it takes to ascend from the bronze medal podium in the German luxury car olympics. Being the perennial second runner-up behind either BMW or Mercedes-Benz must be getting old for the boys from Ingolstadt. The major crux of the plan is to increase Audi’s lineup from the 22 vehicles it sells today to 40 by 2015. We’re requesting a road-going version of the R10, perhaps with a front bumper and an airbag to meet U.S. safety requirements.

Kia News - Spy Shots: 2008/9 Kia Sorento

Brenda Priddy has snapped what appears to be the next Kia Sorento out testing on public roads. The Car Connection refers to it as the 2007 Kia Sorento, but after conferring with some people in the know we’re going to place the next Sorento out a little farther, 2008 or 2009 at the earliest. The next iteration of the Sorento will be living large with increases in every dimension and room for the requisite third row of seating. TCC reports that the ute will also move upscale as it grows in size.

Volvo News - Volvo, Ford will get their own DSG

Whatever stance you take in the automatic versus manual debate, if you haven’t done so already, go out and sample a VW or Audi product equipped with the DSG transmission. All the positives - quicker shifts, better fuel economy, geek-cred - far outweigh the negatives and the fact that Porsche, BMW and even Chrysler are looking to develop their own dual-clutch gearbox, should tell you that DSGs are here to stay. Add to the fact that they may also be cheaper to produce and service, it didn’t take anymore convincing for Ford and its Swedish arm, Volvo, to decide that they better throw their hat into the game.
WhatCar is reporting that a DSG-like tranny will find its way into Volvo models within the next two years and rumor has it that a high-performance version of the C30 will be one of the first vehicles to come equipped with the new gearbox.
In addition to Volvo’s use of the dual-clutch setup, expect to see it carry over into Ford’s vehicles as well, much like the migration from slush boxes that VW is in the process of executing.

Cadillac News - SEMA: Live GM truck highlights

The GM display was pretty lively with a whole slew of different vehicles tricked out to suit just about any lifestyle. Particularly the trucks. As we told you, GM had what seemed like hundreds of these things scattered around the booth. Some of them were so simple and lame uninspired that we didn’t even bother to get live shots. The media pics and press releases should tell you everything you need to know about them. Others, although far short of what we’d consider drool-worthy, had some cool features or were so specific in their execution that we had to smile and pass them along. Dodge News - eBay Find of the Day: 30-ft long Dodge Charger R/T Daytona Limo

You know, prom is coming up and HUMMER limos are so 2001. Why not send your kid and 10 of his friends to the blowout party of the year in a 30-foot long, Banana Yellow Dodge Charger R/T Daytona limo. As luck would have it, one is up for sale on eBay right now, and would you believe there’s no takers at the Buy It Now price of $59,900? The Charger’s 5.7L HEMI V8 is likely a little strained under the extra weight, but we’re sure this stretch can still get up and go when asked. It will seat 11 people, and those being chauffeured are treated to the standard limo accouterments of a wet bar, multiple TVs, and an interior lighting system that uses fiber optics, lasers and a strobe light (what, no smoke machine?). If you’re interested in violating all socially acceptable defenitions of good taste, check out eBay item #290061207893 before December 18th when the auction ends.
