As part of the 22nd Annual International Automobile Festival, a team of judges has chosen its Most Beautiful Automobiles of the World for 2007, and no, the U.S. did not come home with a trunk of gold medals in this competition. We Americans will just have to be content with our two silvers.
On the other hand, many of the pageant-winning cars can actually be found on these shores.
List of winners after the jump.
Correction: Looks like I got my international “Most Beautiful Automobiles of the World” contests mixed up. The cars listed on the jump were chosen at the 14th Annual “L’Automobile pi Bella del Mondo” competition, Oct. 27th in Milan, Italy. The Annual International Automobile Festival is in France in January when their choice for most beautiful is announced. So it looks like I need someone to translate French and Italian for me cause Google ain’t gettin’ it. I’m chalking the Scania truck mixup to translation as well. Mulligan?

Ford News - Lutz says GM open to alliance with Ford
November 30, 2006 by tsikot · Leave a Comment
, GM
Swiss-born GM Vice Chairman Bob Lutz was asked by a Swiss newspaper Sunday if his company would go it alone or seek a merger with Ford. Lutz answered, “We are open to alliances. But we can also be successful alone.”
Does this mean GM and Ford are talking merger? Not likely, but it could mean more cooperation in the future, like the co-developed 6-speed transmission being used in Ford’s Edge and Saturn’s Aura.
Lutz also said GM was still open to working with Renault-Nissan despite a recent report saying Renault-Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn was no longer interested in talking to U.S. automakers about possible alliances.

Chevrolet News - RWD Impala coming in 2009
November 30, 2006 by tsikot · Leave a Comment
The General has been in desperate need of a rear-wheel drive sedan to compete with similarly equipped competitors. Thankfully, the great-granddaddy of them all, the Impala, will fill such a niche and finally return to its RWD roots in 2009.
The new model will be based off the upcoming Camaro’s platform, currently under development by the hoons at Holden in the land down under. The 2009 model will differentiate itself from the 2007 model in both length and width, providing more interior room and allowing the wheels to be pressed to the outer limits of the new sedan’s body.
The primary question that needs to be answered before production begins is whether the Impala will remain amongst the Camry’s and Accord’s of the world, or will move upmarket to limit competition with the newly redesigned Malibu. Considering the Malibu’s growth and upgraded interior, there may be room for another price-point in Chevy’s lineup.
We’re downright ecstatic that GM has seen fit to not only send the Impala’s power to the rear wheels, but share a platform that will instill some desperately needed driving characteristics to its four-door sibling.

MINI News - 2007 MINI Cooper S review on Fifth Gear
November 30, 2006 by tsikot · Leave a Comment
, Euro, Videos, Hatchbacks, MINI
The blokes over at Fifth Gear got their hands on the new MINI Cooper S and gave it the thorough once over. Contrary to other reports, Tom Ford maintains that the ‘go-cart’ handling characteristics that made the last model so popular among drivers are still alive and well.
Styling-wise, Ford agrees that upon first inspection the new Cooper looks much larger. That perception is, in fact true, but mainly due to the hood’s height increase that meets stricter pedestrian impact laws. The newly revised front end causes the beltline to move northwards, giving the new MINI a taller stance.
The three models mentioned in the video are the Cooper, Cooper S and the 1.4-liter One model that has been available across the pond, but hasn’t made its way to the States.
